I've recently received my pacemaker/defib 2 weeks ago and when i get active my heart seems to be doing the cha cha i can feel a very strong beat in my chest i've been interrogated and its perfect does anyone else have it i've been told i have to get use to it its unnerving to say the least and it scares me to death........

I strongly disagree you should have to get used to feeling like your heart is doing the cha cha whenever you are active. It is my contention that we should never feel our pacemakers doing their work. Feel a defibrillator doing its job yes, but not a pacemaker.

My guess is that the rate response settings need some adjustments as the rate response should only go to work when a person is active. That is its purpose, insure that your heart rate increases enough with activity to have the blood flow the body needs with activity.

I can only tell you what I would do if I got caught in a situation like yours. I would first try the person that does the checkups and insist that something is not right. I wouldn't try to give them a diagnosis, let them figure it out. If that didn't work I would contact the doctor that implanted the pacemaker (I may even want to do this first) and tell him what problems I am having. If that doesn't get me relief I would put my complaint in writing and address it to the hospital administrator where I got the pacemaker, sending a copy to the doctor. If that doesn't work I would have a conversation with my attorney.

Hello Friend -- I agree with Smitty. Continue to call the doctor and BUG them. You should not be feeling your pacemake at work. Thanks to the good people on this site, I learned the hard way that they can do an interrogation and readjust the settings. I still have a few episodes of unusual fast heart rate, but I go back for another interrogation soon. Good luck, Shelia
