Wierd Sensation

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping that you guys can help me. My mom has had her pacemaker for about 6 months now. She has been feeling a strange sensation that she says is hard to describe. From what i can gather from what she describes her symptoms are the following: she feels her chest tighten a bit all of a sudden and feels a little short of breath, she also says she feels some discomfort in her stomach. The episodes last a few minutes and then they go away. We have spoken to her doc and he has no explanation for it. He says her stress test are normal and that he doesn't suspect any arterial blockage. has anyone experienced something similar.

Thanks

Pacemaker Life Styles

I have had one for several years and you do tend to feel different feeling than everybody else. If she has had it for less than 3 years then her body is trying to adjust to it. If she has had it for more than 3 years then her body is getting use to it, it will take different turns depending on the location of it in her body, what she might be doing when these things occur. I would like to chat more about specific questions. Thanks Charles

Weird Sensations.

Hi.

Perhaps (and this is just a guess) that this weird sensation could be coming from the pacemaker's self-test.

Mine happened always at the same time of the day and it felt as though something gave my heart a pinch!

It turned out to be the ventricle lead doing it's "self-test", so my pacemaker tech turned OFF this feature for me.

Another suggestion would be: is to ask for an Event Recorder (sometimes called a Loop Recorder) ... so when your mom has these weird sensations, she just presses the button, the event is recorded, then the cardiologist can have a better look of what exactly is going on with her heart when she has these weird sensations!!!!!!!!

It worked for me...I wore an Event Recorder and now I know what all my weird sensations are: Junctional Rhythm and now my EP is trying to "tweak" my pacemaker settings so I won't feel so yucky. It will take a few trips to the clinic, but it's worth it!!!!!!!

OH....and if your Mom hasn't been seen by an EP yet, she should ask to be seen by one: they seem to know SO much more than just the cardiologist.

Another suggestion: ask for the Rep of her type of Pacemaker to be present the next time she has her pacemaker interrogated. Or better yet: call the company...the phone number would be on the card she received.

Hope this helps.

Pookie

You know you're wired when...

You have rhythm.
