Exercise

I had my original PM placed back 6 yrs ago and so far have had both lead wires fracture. I'm not an exercise freak by a long run. I kept being told by the quacks to "exercise" more and then when I do they say "oh it was the repetitive moving backing and forth of your arms that caused the wires to go kerplunk. I don't get it. Two fractured wires in 6 yrs????
Am I not suppose to exercise unless I have my arms folded against my chest? Also, if I attempt to do just a light fast walk, my chest hurts around the pacer area. It only quits when I hold that area stable.
Won't that be a cute video for U-Tube.
Any thoughts anyone..........please!!
Thanks in advance from Texas

2 leads in 6 years is a lot to say the least. What kind of PM do you have? Exercise after everyrhing heals should not lead to breakage. I suppose if the leads were really short ,too short, it could happen. I don't see how repetitive motion cdould even do it? Many carpenters, RR engineers and other people that do repetitive motion work related have PMs an NEVER had a broken lead.

I would definitely consult your cardiologist about both issues, particularly the last dealing with a pain in chest during exercise.

Ask if there's something different about the way your leads are in that would make you more likely to have problems, because that's not normal. As biceps said, if they're too short that could happen, or if it's very close to the collarbone. Usually the leads are too long and they coil the extra behind the device, this gives it plenty of room to move with you. I'd also look it up and see if you have leads that are problematic. There have been a handful of recalls, and models that aren't recalled but have had more than their share of problems.

Did you already have the second one fixed? If not, I'd get a second opinion, see if you can pinpoint what's going wrong so it doesn't happen again. Exercise is not the issue, too many of us here are very active and don't have broken leads.

If you put the video on youtube, please post a link :oP
