Just my rant...

I had a complete cardiology check up last month. Stress test, heart echo, and a visit with my St. Jude EP. I also had a talk with the cardiologist. Everything was great. I left with an appointment for next year, June 2012.

So here's the problem... I received a phone message today stating that I have a pacemaker checkup for Sept. 8th! Are you kidding me was my first thought. I have the Merlin so I don't go into the office for PM check-up anymore. I don't see the point, maybe I am being naive but I have been seeing the Dr. and EP ONCE a year since 2006. Why for heavens sake do I need to have a PM check-up 3 months after a complete check-up with nothing to report except good health? Nothing has changed and I feel just fine. The Merlin sends data every so often and will alert me and the dr. if there are any issues.

Maybe it is just simply a matter of miss communication. I will phone the dr. office tomorrow and see what they are talking about with this "pacemaker check". Maybe they don't know I have the Merlin? A new hire maybe? or Perhaps I'm just cranky because of the darn heat and high electric bills!

Blame it on the computer

You were probably in the computer for the Sept checkup before you had all the tests. No one thought to remove the schedule.

Call them and cancel it. Be ready for someone ignorant of the whole process to give you a story about needing to see the doc. If they do ask for exactly what the monitor is seeing that triggered the call.

Hopefully it will be simple. Treat them nice, but keep your hand on the "cranky switch" just in case.

Unless the caller gave a reason for the "check" it's probably just a dumb mistake, so be at ease. I'd just call and ask nicely what it's all about and then be prepared to cancel. I agree with Frank, keep your hand on the cranky switch, but lightly unless you need to apply pressure.

Had a similar thing happen. I had actually just been at the Dr for a PM check, then had a nurse call and ask why I had not sent in a phone check days later? ...Human error :)$$$. Lol!

It was a complete lack of communication on their part. Seems the front office decided to call everyone who has a pacemaker to inform them of the PM Checks with complete disregard to the type of monitoring systems that we patients might have. It appears that there was an avalanche of phone calls like mine with the same questions.

I only become cranky when I'm tired, hungry, hot and frustrated. The other evening that is exactly what happened. I was in a much better mood when I phoned them before the temps. read 111 degrees. It is 6:26 am here now and it is already 80! I think I will stay inside, have something to eat, have a nap and enjoy my day.
