reveal cardiac loop monitor

Just got mine implanted today...asked the Dr to "hide" it and it's under my breast...all I can say is "ouch". It's ok as long as I don't move, or move, or laugh. I'm hoping that it gets better soon, and that this all works out. But seriously, I think you should see the discharge paperwork prior to signing consent forms. Like "no showering for 5 days" WHAT? they could totally have warned me about that. And perscriptions for antibiotics, can't they give you those before so that you could actually get it filled and not have to stop in your drug induced stupor on the way home.
Way better procedure than the ablation though.
Thanks everyone for the support!

Don't sneeze!

by ElectricFrank - 2009-09-18 12:09:27

If you really want an ouch try sneezing! I had forgotten about that, but it woke me up from a sound sleep the first night.

By the way I interpreted the No Showering to mean Don't Get the Incision Wet. I taped (actually my wife) a piece of plastic wrap over the site and made sure it was sealed. Then enjoyed a shower the second nite. After that I used the same approach to sit in my hot tub. I only left the plastic wrap on during the shower or tub to allow air to the site.

Glad to hear it all went well though,

Um, the pain killers hadn't worn off yet that day...I called for a stronger script the next day :-)
The incision is HUGE, as in I want to give them a ruler b/c everyone said it was only going to be 2cm and it's like 3.5 inches, but I'm glad it's hidden.
I'll message you about the ablation

Ablation?

I was wondering how the ablation procedure was for you? I had my pm/defib put in 12 days ago - under the chest muscle to 'hide' it - like yours. It hurt like hell but at 12 days out is starting to feel a lot better and the incision scar is tucked away under my arm. I Can't believe you felt good enough to be typing a question on your surgery day...that's very impressive! I felt like I'd been hit by a truck and that it was just resting on my chest. I was unprepared for the level of pain and respiratory issues but doing much better now.

The drs are already talking about the ablation procedure, which sounds utterly hideous! Can you shed any light on.

Good luck with your recovery. The first week was very tough and went by very slowly and although my dr said 'no driving restrictions,' attempting to drive myself at 4 days post-op was very ill-advised. Nobody told me not to shower either and since I was a bit too loopy to read any paperwork, I showered on my second day but all looks fine now!

Wishing you a speedy recovery!
