All brands are dependable and will work well.

Some brands/models have bells and whistles that may work better for you if your problem is complicated.

In my opinion, the rep is more important than the brand. The rep is the one who will most likely be responsible for getting your settings right. If you get one of the smaller manufacturers, make sure you have local reps.

The dr usually chooses the brand you get. They go with the one they have the best relationship with. This works for me because I want my dr to have a great relationship with my rep, makes life easier for me when I have problems because they work so well together.

I got my pacemaker five years ago.It was a Guidant. At that time, Guidant was in trouble over some fatal failures, they said Guidant had. I found out weeks later that mi PM was in a recall list, because of possible battery failure. It all was checked out and lo, here am I, five years later. But I think Guidant does not exist- it has been bought by another company.

i supposed doctor knows best what brand they r going to implant u...besides u will be properly oriented with the company and d brand they are choosing to suit ur needs. I am operated twice already ...my first lasted 14years which my doc or cardio don't allow me to on my 2nd one...am on the 5th year of my 2nd operation and all goes well as far as i know....i work a lot, move a lot since i am a media practitioner but it goes well....i do what normal people does...the only difference is that i have scars and i am just cautious not to go near big magnetic device such as of d travel check thing ....heheheh that s why i am always looking forward of having my permanent id since my paper card s damaged. i mean the hard way is just presenting our pacemaker id to securities for us to be well treated accordingly:)

Pass on Guidant

Guidant had such a bad reputation that when it was bought by Boston Scientific, they changed the name to fool people. So Guidant lives on under the name of Boston Scientific but it's still up to it's old tricks of not complying with govt. requirements. (see newer posts).

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
