Arm over head

Had a dual lead PM installed 6 weeks and 4 days ago but who is counting. I have been given permission to swing the golf clubs after 6 weeks, feels pretty good. Question is when can you reach over your head like everyone says you should avoid?

depends on your DR.

I was released after 4 weeks with no restricyions by my Heart Dr. but the EP where i had my surgery wanted me to wait 8 weeks. So even the Drs. can't agree. I went back to work and doing every thing and any thing after the 1 month period and was OK. But that's me this is not a recommendation just my story. Ask your Dr. and do what he/she says. Bowlrbob

everyone's different

Different doctors and staff told me different things, everything from a few days to three months. I figure it's not an exact science at this point. Everyone's different. I was slow and cautious for the first month or two and then began gradually, nothing abrupt. If you're comfortable swinging a golf club, that's fantastic. Happy to hear things are going so well.

About 2-3 weeks ago

My cardiologist is one of the kind that uses 3 weeks as the time period. I would think swinging the golf clubs would more challenging on the leads than simple reaching over your head.

Well let me tell you that I too loooove to golf ,and I recieved my P.M.in May 07. Like you,I could hardly wait to start playing. So at first I would just swing waist high . I made a lease and connected it to my belt ,this would only let me swing so high. i gave up on that after awhile and waited out the 8 weeks. I sort of scared myself fly fishing.I got my fly stuck up a tree and with out thinking there I was, left arm high over my head and pulling very hard on a limb ,try ing to break it of so i could retrieve my fly. Any way finally got my time in and now i do every thing and think nothing of it.i do get the odd PVC .So wait it out and you should have no concerns.

Why do you reach over your head? I'm at 11/weeks and still reach very little. I had no problem using my right hand. I also am a active golfer...see posts in sports.

Thanks for the advice and personal stories. I remain cautious about the reaching overhead. Hope to get my first none holes in this week sometime. Next month I was told I can start playing hockey again (non-contact league), that I'm a little apprehensive about.

As mentioned in the earlier posting, CAUTION is the key; however, your doctor knows your healing process better than anyone. My doctor recommended a three month wait. I had the PM implanted in June 2009, and did not lift the clubs until last month; however, we had a vacation for a couple of weeks last month as well. I did not lift my arms above my head until after those three months, and I still am a bit cautious. In fact, when I venture in public places and/or large crowds I tend to place my right hand over my PM, just so I don't get bumped in the heart area.
