Lucas and snowbroading

Hi Everyone,

My son is 5 years old and has had a pacemaker since he was 3 months old. He is a little jock - go figure. Currently his pacemaker is implanted in his stomac. This winter I was hoping to teach both my boys snowbroading.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

p.s. perhaps there is protective gear that he can wear.

PaceGuard

Hi Lucas' Mom,
My name is Sharon Spinnler and I am the co-found of PaceGuard. I designed a two point protective system specifically for pacers. When my daughter Zoie was three, she had her pm implanted. A couple of years later, she wanted to play sports but there wasn't anything adequate out there. At least to my satisfaction and comfort level. That's how PaceGuard came to be. Just recently, I've had two people with pm's place in their abdomin. I had my manufacturer make the PaceGuard shirts just for them. In case you are interested, I have two black youth small for the abdomin. You can check out our website at www.paceguard.com. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at 201-755-0372 or spinnler@paceguard.com

Hi Lucas,
If you go to the search button and look up protective gear. There is some other articles that give you the website for protective gears designed for pm. Sorry if I had more time I would have gotten the website for you. Hopefully somebody else will be able to give you the website.
Good luck!

How wonderful that your son is a jock. It's nice to know technology can help him be a normal, active little boy.

You're pretty well padded already when you go out in the snow, I don't think additional protection is necessary. Contact sports are the main thing you'd want to think about protective gear. If you would feel better with him in gear, check out paceguard. If you do a search of the old posts, you'll find a number of discussions about it and a link to the site.

I'm a geeky klutz, blows my mind that both of my kids are cheerleaders. God does have a sense of humor!

Protective Gear

Hello Lucas,

If you think the winter clothes may not provide enough protection I would suggest a baseball (or softball) catchers chest guard over the his clothes. That is unless the PM is real low in the abdomen because you certainly would not want the chest guard ending about where the PM is located. On second thought you might just go to a sporting goods store and take a look at all the protective gear available for the little ones playing baseball or football.

I hope he enjoys snow boarding and never has to think about his pacemaker.
