Baby Aspirin

Anyone out there been told to come off the beta blocker and told to take a baby aspirin daily instead?

Your thoughts or conditions that deemed this appropriate from the doctor would be appreciated.

THANKS

OR AN ALTERNATIVE ~ ~

There is always the Coumadin/Warfarin rat poisoning instead. Ugh, yuk! Baby aspirin sounds healthier.

I take beta blockers and have for years, many moons.
The Dr. tried regular aspirin & Warfarin in 2008 and after about 3 months, I started hemorraghing. They took me off both. In early 2009, I had a blood clot in the leg. After surgery and a week in the hospital, the Dr. said I had to go back on Warfarin/Coumadin (no aspirin) to prevent anymore blood clots/strokes.

That is where I am now, waiting for the new "miracle drug" my cardiologist told me last year would be coming out where it would not require INR tests & maybe not made of rat poisoning? Still waiting ~ ~

asprin

Hi Wenditt,

I take 12.5mg of a beta blocker and like TraceyE mentioned they have two different uses, but I have asked my General Practioner and Cardiologist if I should take a baby asprin and no one will say yes for sure not sure if they are waitng till I am older or what. I have heard good things about taking a baby asprin daily from helping to prevemt blood clots reducing imflammation (which I even heard helps reducing wrinkles!) etc. There is the side effects of bleeding but only taking 81mg doesn't increase those odds from happening. Still waiting to hear if I should start taking one myself, since they always say check with your Dr. before starting. Carol

Been taking a baby aspirin since I hit 40

I have taken a baby aspirin a day since I hit 40. Doctors were glad to hear it and said it isn't an issue as long as I don't develop any stomach problems. Since I had my pacer installed my bp has risen slightly and my cardio suggested I up it from 81 to 162 a day, at least until I lose a few more pounds and get my bp back to its traditional 115 over 80. Other than that I don't take anything else although my cardio keeps mentioning that beta blockers are probably in my future due to SSS but I figure the longer I can manage it myself the better. I do take at multi-vit, vit B, C, E and Gluco/Condroit every day as well as a good dose of fiber mixed in my OJ every morning. The vits have been taking for years, the GC started after my last knee op and the fiber started when I dealt with a bout of IBS-C.

The way I understand it, they have different uses. I'm on both at the moment for two different things. Aspirin is a blood thinner, used to reduce heart attack and stroke riwsk. Beta blockers slow hr and reduce blood pressure.

Here's a great article on aspirin therapy
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/daily-aspirin-therapy/HB00073

I was put on aspirin when I was in the hospital last month and am debating if I want to stay on it or not. My drs were discussing if I should be on it or not and it came across to me that they were thinking "why not" instead of "she needs it".

I think I'm in the "why not"

The EP took me off the beta blocker because the thyroid meds got changed and seemed to take the tachy away. But the cardiologist suggested the aspirin I think "just in case." I haven't done it yet. He mentioned it after I asked "are there any arrythmias left" we may have not found or addressed that could be fatal. He said none would be fatal because my heart muscle was in good shape. His answer after that was he wasn't sure, so I think this was his way of having to treat my question.

I think I really need a new doc!

baby asprin

I have been taking the 81mg (baby asprin for several years now and have not had any problems with it but do not take beta blockers. One of the main resaons i take the asprin is because I also take 1500mg of niaspan daily and if I take the asprin about a 1/2 hour before I take the niaspan I don't get the flushing.

I believe there needs to be a good reason why you take any medicine (not becuase they think it may help) because the doctors tent to overmedicate if you let them.
