Mitro Valve Prolapse

Does anyone have experience with this? My GP had me lay on my left side and said he heard it. Said it was nothing to worry about. Had an echo done several weeks later and it didn't show.

Have been trying to get to the bottom of "what" I am feeling. I am frustrated and feel like I am not being heard. I have worn 2 halters already and PVC's, PAC's and skips showed up. No MVP.

But it really doesn't help me. At times when I feel my pulse, I can feel a slight pause. Doctor said don't worry about it. Not sure if it's a pause or a skip...all I know it that a beat "feels" like its missing when I compare it to the regular rhythem.

Something is making me jump or startle like. Not sure what it is. And I have absolutely no confidence in my cardiologist as he has not once on 6 months held a stethescope to my heart.

Getting a second opinion in 2 weeks. But find it difficult to wait those two weeks. Am scared....as usual. Hoping I live long enough for them to figure this all out.

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wenditt

My mother has Mitral Valve Prolapse and she's 78 and she's doing just fine. She gets an echo done once a year and that's it.

I too have mild mitral valve prolapse - it was discovered when I was sent to the Mayo Clinic. I have also mild regurgitation???

If it makes you feel any better I was told by the Mayo cardiologist that most people have a little something wrong with their hearts - that no organ is completely perfect.

With that being said, if what you are feeling is making your life completely miserable, etc. by all means you should be getting a 2nd opinion. Plus I totally agree with you if your first cardio doc hasn't even used a stethoscope on you....get rid of him!!!!

I guess what I'm trying to say is, once we receive a pacemaker or a defib we are now SO intuned to our hearts that every little skip or missed beat, we're onto it like nobody's business, as before we would probably just ignore it.

I was also told recently by a cardiac nurse before my MIBI test that if your heart was not functioning and you were really headed for trouble...that your lips would be grey in color with a lot of other significant side effects and noticeable issues.

It's SO hard for us to ignore all of these subtle things now that we've got our devices and that sucks, but with time....

like my shrink said to me: I used to panic everytime I felt something and I was convinced 100% that something was wrong with my heart....he told me that after 5 yrs of this that I was 100% wrong = and he was right!!!!!!!!!

I know waiting 2 weeks sounds like forever, wish I could help you there....perhaps you could call and put your name on a cancellation list???

Take care,
Pookie

Hi Wendy,

Mitral Valve Prolapse is quite common and many of the time it is no big deal. Sometimes if the valve has too much regurgitation then it can lead to some problems.

I was diagnoised years ago by a Dr. who was listening to my heart and also have had it checked with a echo to see if there was any regurgitation. All my sisters and mother have it and lots of women I know have it. Sometimes it can make you have chest pain but beta blockers help that. I have skipped beats lots and I am pretty sure they are PVC's which as my Cardiologist, Primary Care providers and lots of other Dr.'s I have asked are no big deal unless you have tons. Hope this helped a little. Carol
