thumping

Hello,
i am 10 weeks post implantation of a St Jude 5826 dual PM and occasionally I get these hard thumps seemingly under midway my left rib cage. This happened once with so much effect that it caused left lip droop and slurred speech as if I had had a stroke.
Any one else had this with this PM model.
Thanks

Phrenic Nerve

I had some thumping under the ribs from my recently installed Medtronics PM. Mine does pace the Left Ventricle. I don't believe the St Juse 5826 does this. However, the symptoms seem the same.

Pulses down by the diaphram come from exciting the phrenic nerve. Mine went away when the doctor adjusted my voltage a little lower. I hope this minor adjustment works for you.

Are you being paced in your ventrical by any chance? Either way it sounds like they will need to adjust some settings for you. I don't know if you have been to your first check-up yet but if not I would call in and see if you could move one up so you feel better.
Good luck!

The hard thumps are common after an implant and sometime scan be improved with adjustment of the pacer. The mouth/speech thing is not normal and needs to be addressed.
