How long

I had a pm implanted two weeks ago and have started my speed walking again. Is that normal that I've been able to begin again so quickly. The difference is that I am not short of breath.

Your experience is like mine. I was out walking the next day, but took it easy. Main limitation was not bouncing the incision to much..didn't feel good to do that. Sure feels good to have full heart action back doesn't it. I was totally awake in the O.R. during the implant and when they turned it on I was ready for a couple of laps around the hospital.

A lot depends on what the condition is that caused the need for a pacer, and how long the person went with reduced cardiac output. Going too long that way can cause deterioration of organs and muscle tissue that takes a while to heal. I was lucky in getting the pacer only 2 days after I developed AV Block so all was raring to go. Sounds like you were in good shape too.

I am a runner and was walking the next day....actually the night of the pacemaker was implanted at 2:00 A.M. in the morning in the hospital. I couldnt sleep!! I had 3 leads into my heart and there was always a concern with one of the leads since it was just laid in a vein. Anyways, I took it easy for the first few days but walked every day....very long walks. At my two week check up, I was told to start speed walking. One week later, I was given the clearance to start running again. The Nurse Practioner who I regard very highly in this stated that she was not concerned about me bouncing the leads out. The bigger concerned was movement with the arms lifting and my arms above my head....that would yank them out. Anyways...knock on wood.....I am celebrating my 4 week anniversary of implant today. I feel much better and all the dizziness has disappeared. The only thing that still bothers me is the area of the implant....still kinda of sore...but incision looks good. Good Luck!!!
