First - to the moderator - is there a way to get rid of that anoying grey stripe down the middle of the page?
Now- Had my PM checkup a few days ago - it recorded 7500 events in the loast 6 months, none over a minute long! I feel some, but not all - mostly at night. Doc says that if I can tolerate that he will not change anything. They did turn on the motion detector that kicks the rate to 80 if I move much. So far I see no real effect.
A year ago I had an AV node ablation, so my HR doesn't vary much from the setting of 70. Before that I went to the ER often to get a cardioversion. Haven't been back since!
I'm almost 85, so not a good candidate for an ablation - don't want one anyway. I have no problems with the site or anything like that.

Hi, I'm one of the moderators. Blake, the owner, is away. I don't see a gray stripe on my screen. What browser are you using?

Funny, I see it in both IE and FireFox. Wonder if anyone else sees it!!

Gray Stripe

by SMITTY - 2011-03-03 07:03:13

Tracey,

Yes, I have a light gray stripe down the left and right side of my monitor. I'm running W-7 (but that doesn't matter because I saw it with W-98 and XP) and I use DSL. I have always figured that considering the price I pay for this service, I would just put up with it.

It sounds like your browser. I use Safari and there are no grey stripes down the middle of the page. Try downloading the Safari browser-you can get the PC version if you don't have a MAC. Another browser is google chrome. Try using these browsers when you visit the pacemaker club.

My long division by hand kinda went astray, Try my below edited math. Sorry. Guess there are those days...

..events? Singles or runs? That makes a big difference. Type of abnormality makes a big difference, also.

At a HR of 70, you have about 4200 beats in an hour; 100,800 in a day. (60X70 =4200 - Yep, that one's OK)

7500 events in 6 mo. is about 1200 per day. Or, ABOUT 1.2 % of your beats are abnormal. That's not a lot. Unless your events are mostly long runs. (AHA!!! Wrong Divisor - shoulda been 7500/ 180 = roughly 42 per day - even better for my discussion. I'll try again from this point.)

7500 events in 6 months is about 42 per day. Or, a miniscule fraction of a percent of all your beats. That's not a lot, at all. Again - unless the events come in extremely long runs.

Another way to look at it is 42 per day is about 2 per hour. Again not very many unless they come in long runs.

If you are talking PVC's, unless they are long runs, that's not many. I'd be happy to only have 1 PVC per minute. Considering that I was running at about 10% rate before I ever noticed it, & got to 33% before it affected daily living.

Under any circumstance, if it is noticable & makes you feel bad, it is bad. Your Dr. sounds like mine talking about PVC's. Wouldn't have done anything except mine became very long runs & really affected my living & the way I felt.

Hope I helped you a little to put it into perspective. Again, it depends a lot on what kionds of events you have. PVC's are nothing. A-Fib is just a WEEEE bit more serious. As are a bunch of other things that can happen.

Don't know if your Dr. has mentioned it or not - but a lifetime ago (it seems) I had the same situation - sensing them at night when all was still & quiet. He commented that "Sensory deprivation" can cause you to be more sensitive to inner events. You are lying there in the dark, it's quiet & peaceful (except for your wife snoring) & smaller things come to your attention and are noticeable. After the first one, you start looking for them & voila! you start finding them. Oh, they are very real, he says, you have just become sensitized to them & start being on the lookout for them - day & night.

You have me by some ten yrs - keep up the good work! Sorry 'bout the crappy math.

Thanks for your input. I do have to question your arithmetic. Try again snd see what you think.

Another way to look at it is 1200 per day is about 50 per hour, about 1 per hour. Again not very many unless it is a long run..

If you are talking PVC's, unless they are long runs, that's not many. I'd be happy to only have 1 PVC per minute. Considering that I was running at about 10% rate before I ever noticed it, & got to 33% before it affected daily living.

Grey Lines

by Pookie - 2011-03-04 12:03:21

Hi. I have always had 2 wide grey lines on either side of the posts/comments & I've been a member for almost 6 yrs. Now, I'd prefer if they were purple or pink, but I don't think that is going to be happening any time soon:)

I've got to agree with Smitty - for the $ we pay for the use of this awesome site - I think I can live with it:)

Take care and I truly hope your events lessen as I'm sure they can become rather annoying.
