I am losing my sanity

In October, 2009, I had an ICD put in which is both a pacemaker and diffibrulator. I have a Medtronic Secura. I had to have a second surgery in December 2009 because the ventricle or lower lead detached from the heart. The doctors think I may need another surgery because they are not getting a response from the top or atrial lead. My pacemaker feels that she doesn't want to use the same surgeon again since there have been problems with other patients besides me regarding pacemaker surgeries. I live in Staten Island, New York and have had the first two surgeries at Staten Island University Hospital.

In the meantime, I had been taken Diovan HCT for several years with alot of success controlling my high blood pressure. The doctor then changed the medication to Cardizem a few months ago and then added toprol 25 mg two times a day about a month ago. She decided yesterday to stop the Cardizem and Toprol and put me back on Diovan.

My heart rate is all over the place as low as 50, which happens to be the pacemaker setting, to as high as the mid 90s. My blood pressure has been rather erratic too. I am hoping that the change in medication will take care of this.

I sometimes feel shortness of breath, lightheaded or a headache.

Also, I am trying to lose weight. About a month ago, I was 301 and I have lost about 20 pounds.

I am thinking about changing doctors and staying in Manhattan and going to New York University.

Please advise if you have had any similar situations.

Thanks,
Lorraine
