horse back riding and old farts like me

I just had a dual lead Boston scientific pacemaker put in because of sick sinus syndrom. It's been 3 weeks, and I know thats rather a short time. I have a beautiful Arabian mare that I love to ride and I hope to get back on her soon. I have arthritis in my knees and a fat butt so gettin on and off my horse is a really big job pulling myself up and onto the saddle and lowering my fat butt down so my knee bends enough to allow the other foot to touch the ground. Will I ever be able to reach up and pull myself onto the saddle and will I be able to hang down and let myself down off the horse?? I really dont want to give up my horse and riding. Any other fat horse riders with pacemakers out there?? (yeah, I know, loose weight...

Of course you will be able to get back on your horse! I did it and there are a few other women who ride who also have pacemakers. We are a wild and crazy bunch but we are a lot of fun! =)
If you go to the member gallery on the left hand side of the screen you can see some pictures of us on our horses!
You can check under my username and you will see me on "Big Boy". Yes I did pull myself up onto this beautiful horse.
Good luck to you, remember to wait until your doc gives the ok though. Mean while I would get the stair stepper out and make sure my legs were strong so when the time comes to ride you are ready to go!

I'll have to remind TraceyE of your title next year when the Pacie awards come around.

I do believe that's the best title I've seen on here in the 2 years I've been here.

Great! Doesn't it help to have a sense of humor in life?

A dream of mine....

It's much better to live with a pacemaker than to risk your life without one.
