racing heart question

Hi everyone :) I have a couple of questions
I have been doing quite well here for the last couple of weeks
I am taking a beta blocker 50mg every evening with dinner
anyways, yesterday I was active all day long - up and down the stairs, walking, cleaning etc etc... so last nite I get up from the couch to the kitchen and all of a sudden my heart felt like it took a flip flop then it started to race..so I went back to the couch told my husband - it raced off and on for a hr - finally it settled down - now I took my BP during this and it was 117/90
with the pulse of 125 - the pulse didnt stay up that high during the episode stayed around 90 then back down - but what causes this? if you have had this happen to you can you post a reply and let me know what you did and how often this happens? I had 1/2 of a dark choc milky way bar and a couple of choc chip cookies during the course of the day...would that set it off?? or does this mean I can't be as active as I was for this racing of the heart will take off? I go see my Dr in a couple of weeks for PM interrigation and I wondered will this episode show up? I got my PM in Oct 09 for AV Block - so I am about 5 months into this.... any comments, suggestions please let me know... Thank you :)

Breezy

I've had that happen 3 times over the last few weeks. Not sure what causes it. My next appt. is on May 4th so I'm anxious to ask about it as it's VERY unsettling.
As far as the sugar? I don't honestly know. I have noticed a correlation (could be coincidence) with what I eat & how I feel. It always seems it's chocolate related. LOL I don't mean to be funny either! I've read to watch the caffeine intake & I don't drink coffee or pop so am thinking it could possibly raise my heart rate??
The episode will show up on the interrogation.

Caffeine

Hi.

I only can say that since I changed my coffee to decaf and gave up eating chocolate my thumps& pounding of my heart has subsided quite a lot.

Caffeine can make your heart race, not sure about the sugar.

Think about that new drink called Red Bull - full of caffeine and teenagers are drinking it like crazy, there was a newsclip about it and how, for some, it can be dangerous.

Caffeine/Sugar and whatever else

Hi :) Thank you both for your postings
I have decided to lay off the choc and choc cookies for awhile - I have not had any episodes today - but then I don't have them every day either... I will be seeing my Dr on May 3rd so I will take all this to him.... I sure don't understand how or why the racing starts - when one has been active all day and when nothing else is going on?
So thanks again :)

Sugar

I have noticed it. Not so much with caffeine (I'm a regular coffee drinker), but if I sit down with a big bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream (MMMmmmmm), I can count on lots of palpitations and racing heart for a while. This happens especially if I have been watching what I eat for a while and then decide to splurge on something. I can count on it then.

A_FIB

You might have had a bout of a-fib. You went back to a normal sinus rythm and that is good. That is what the B/B is for. Keep a diary and monitor your emotions and food intake. I have read that ace inhibitors can keep your sinus node normal and be sort of a gate keeper. If you have more episodes be concerned that it doesn't convert to persistent a-fib. Be sure to review with doc.

good luck, -Philman
