high heart rate

12/09 pace maker implant.

Excellent pulse and then woke up feeling bad with no pulse.

My heart rate is now fluctuating in the high 70's, 80's, etc., when at rest. Seem high when they say 60 + is the objective

Doc says O.K.

What is your experience? Info please.

Rate Response On?

by MSPACER - 2009-12-05 08:12:50

Does the doctor have the rate response on? That will make your pulse run higher than the minimum setting just by moving around a little. I had mine shut off, since it was very annoying, and I did not really need it. If you can get your heart rate up with exercise, then you probably don't need it on. Ask your doctor to check the rate response setting.

diagnosis?

Did they say why you needed the pm?

60 isn't a goal, it's a minimum. If your heart goes faster on its own, the pm can't do anything to stop it. Pm's don't really work in beats per minute, but per second. If your minimum is set at 60 bpm, that's one per second so it won't let your heart go more than one second without beating. Think of it as a watch dog, always keeping an eye on things and making sure your heart beats every second. If your heart beats twice in a second, it's just going to watch.

Mine fluctuates too

I've had mine 2 weeks. It fluctuates - sometimes for no apparent reason - but it doesn't bother me. It seems to have settled into about 60-85 most of the time unless I am exercising. I just notice if I happen to check my pulse I also had the rate response thing turned off as very early on it was driving me nuts with 90-120 pulse when I would simply stand up. Now it doesn't do that any more. I am a active person and the Dr. said I didn't need the rate response feature.

I love my rate response on!

the lower setting is just a safeguard to stopyour heart from going too low. Loads of things will make your heart rate go up, thats what normal hearts do. I asked my cardiologist and he said anything up to 100 was fairly normal.

I'm active but was really struggling to get my heart rate up, and if I was doing stuff like hill walking I was getting breathless, rate response was switched on and I felt like I'd been given an energy kick! lol.
