itching and redness at site

Hi all! I would like to thank everyone for the great information that I have found at this site! I received my pacemaker (dual lead) on November 6th, 3 days after having an aortic valve replacement and aneursym repaired. I am now experiencing itching and redness at the site. It does not appear to be infected, just sort of inflamed. No drainage. Is this normal and has anyone else had this to happen?

sounds pretty normal

Redness is fairly normal around the site just after implant, and itching can come and go for many months. I would keep a close eye on it. If it's not streaking, or seeping, or more swollen than it was the day after implant than I would guess that it's okay. Also keep an close eye on your temperature to monitor yourself for infection,

As always contact your doctor when in doubt. I just posted a picture of myself shortly after implant. it's so read and swollen and angry looking- it just screams ouch. Unfortunately, I see that the upload didn't work so maybe they'll get it fixed sometime. I wish you could see it now though. You're one of the reasons I posted that pic....as a learning tool.

Happy Holidays, welcome, and happy healing,
Angelie

doesn't sound like you need to worry

I received my device two years ago and 8 months ago they needed to go in and replace wires. Both surgeries left my wound a "little itchy". Agree with Angelie, if it does not appear infected or draining, it is just the way the skin begins to heal. Mine scar will actually itch from time to time, very mildly and the redness does go away after several months. It does get better.

You know you're wired when...
