Interrogations???

I keep reading here about them What are they? How often are they done & does everyone with a PM/ICD get them. And lastly.... can you feel them?? I have my 1st "wound check" on Feb. 3 with my EP. Will it happen then? Thanks!

interrogations

You probably already had at least one in the hospital and didn't know what it was called. It's when they put the little white thingy over it that's hooked up to the computer and it reads what the pm has done since the last check. Some do it from home. Some go in to the dr to have it done, how often varies from once a year to every three months. And yes, you will probably have another one when they do a wound check.

how it feels

Just realized I didn't answer your last question... you can usually feel it. It feels weird, not bad, to me it's sort of like when an elevator comes to a stop. The feeling goes away as soon as they finish messing with it!

This is where they put you in a room, read you your rights, and try to get you to admit to a high cholesterol diet.

Just had to say that LOL,

I've gotten so many great responses since joining last week and again, my thanks. Right now, my biggest fear is that "kick". I'm hoping that's not part of the interrogation (just to make sure the defib is working)???The Docs say I'm one of the lucky ones since I've never experienced chest pain, S.O.B. or fainting prior to my surgery, just bradycardia. I'm hoping that means that all is pretty well in there and Gizmo wont decide to jolt me! My mom has an ICD as well and in over 10 yrs. she's never been jolted. I just wish with all my pre-op Googling on the subject of PM/ICD's, I would have found this site. Sure would have alleviated alot of my fears. Thanks so very much, especially for all the humor!

Update on 1st check up

Thanks.... you were all right. And the interrogation did feel exactly like an elevator ride. My leads are in place, and some minor adjustments were made. The said I'm pacing at 99% and that was good, (whatever that means) All of my questions were answered too and I had a list of them. Best of all, I can drive again, but still have the restrictions on arm raising & lifting for another month. As far as my skipping beats, it picked up nothing lke that, even tho I gave them exact times. They said I'm probably feeling the lower chambers pacing, which is alot faster than my normal rate was prior to surgery. Piece of cake! So thanks again.

feeling discouraged today :(

I hate this yo-yo pattern I've been in. Yesterday, I was feeling good after my EP visit/interrogation. As I mentioned, they said they made some "minor" adjustments. But either I'm crazy or they weren't so minor cause I don't feel nearly as good as I did prior to the visit. After I came home yesterday, I went for my daily walk, and could barely finish a flat level block. I honestly didn't think I was going to make it back home having to stop every 10 ft or so. Two days prior to that, I did some steep hills with no problem. All day today, I've felt my heart. Either fluttering, or pacing or pounding, but I'm aware of it, all the time Nobody should be aware of their heart beating all the time and I dont want to live with this old Gizmo if this is life with an ICD. I'm wondering now.... will I ever be able to go back to working out at the gym, or line dancing or hiking???? What good is this thing doing anyway? Then to make matters worse, my hubbys employer notified them today that our insurance coverage will change on March 1st and the new provider isn't one that my cardiologist or EP accepts. So I'm smack-dab in the middle of this and totally lost. I wonder if new docs take me on with this so new???? Sorry to sound so down, but I really am and I also wonder if maybe getting this ICD was a mistake. Now, it's time for bed and I suppose this beating will keep me up again tonight. Please tell me this will pass and I'll have a fairly normal life again, filled with some youthful activity!!!!!!

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
