Incision pain

Hi All. I have been recuperating well except I still have a lot of tenderness and these sharp stabbing pains by my incision. Also some pain in my shoulder. Plus I can "feel" the pm under my skin. Not by feeling it with my hand, but I feel it when I move around. Is this normal? Does anyone know how long it takes for the pain to completely go away? Will I always feel it when I move?

I had my pacemaker surgery on 2/4/10 and still experience pain and tenderness. I also have some numbness in the shoulder area. I guess everyone heals at a different pace, no pun intended. I also think that being new to having a pacemaker we are more aware of it in our body right now. I am sure in time it will be way back in our minds and not given much thought.

Just try to take it easy as long as you have pain and of course if it is something you cannot tolerate, call your doctor.

Speedy recovery from one to another.

Hi Dana, I'm Jessi. I had my PM implanted on the 23rd of February. When I saw the doctor he said it would hurt for a few months. It takes some time for everything in there to heal up totally. Welcome & I hope everything goes well.

Dana, everyone heals at a different pace so it varies how long it stays sore. Some do feel it when they move around, it depends on your build and where your dr placed it. I do not feel mine, but I know some do.

If you have redness, heat, swelling, streaks, oozing... get to your dr! As long as it's clean and pink, the rest is just normal healing. The stabbing is the nerves healing. I'm at 8 weeks now and it's still a little tender, nothing awful but I know it's there.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
