Blood platelets dropping

I just got back from the Hematologist and my platelets have dropped in half in two days. Monday I have to get bone marrow test..ouch. The Hematologist said that it looks like ITP. He gave me prednisone and said start it right away. Tuesday they will re-test my platelets and if they have not increased we will do a blood transfusion to do the pacemaker surgery wednesday. Its so much going on...:(

Thinking of you

by tsimbrow - 2010-02-05 06:02:29

Hey Paul,
You know I have been following your posts and I as well cannot imagine what you are going through. The good news is that the doctor want to get to the bottom of this and will. The bone marrow test is not a pleasant tests, but can give the doctor many answers that regular blood tests can't. Did you ask him the questions you needed? Did you ask him about the prednisone and what to watch for? Keep us posted on what is going on and if you don't feel well over the weekend get yourself to an ER. Thinking of you and waiting to hear what is going on.

Thank you, I am very scared for sure. It looks like either ITP or Leukemia- either way not a good time. I have a lot of anxiety problems already before all of this and now I am definitely freaking out a bit. I do not know how I can handle all of this. Thanks for everything to everyone.

Hi Paul,

I have been following your posts and I can not imagine what you must be going through. It has to be very frustrating. All I can say is hang in there and I am sure they will get everything sorted out. I will be praying for you. This site has done wonders for me and I hope that it has been helping you with your situation.

You will get thru this.

I too went thru a lot (not as much as you tho) and there were times that I too thought how the heck can I handle this...and you know what?....you just do because you can.

I haven't stopped thinking about you bud.

Be strong.

Just Take One Day At A Time ~ ~

Paul, the first post I read from you were of concerns of having a PM implant on Wednesday. Each day you have posted after that has been another lil' obstacle. Your fellow PM friends are thinking about you and saying prayers, as they too have been in your place. Please keep us informed of your progress or any questions you may have of your PM families.

Each day you are learning something new of your body. Isn't it a wonderful Blessing to find all this out now and not way down the line when your body may not tolerate the findings as well as it will now? Stay strong, not only in your thinking but in your body.

Hopefully, withing a few days, you will have had your PM bunny energizer implant and be up & having a Happy Valentine's with your families and loved ones.

Hang in there Paul, don't a let a few "clouds" spoil your days when your "sunshine" is in the near future.

Take care/God Bless ~ Carolyn G. in TEXAS ( :

Tough

Paul,
I agree with what everyone has said and the only thing I can say is to repaeat one someone else has already said. Take one day at a time and I know what you are going through isn't easy, but all of us are here for you and you will get through this. If you can't/don't want to by yourself, we will be by you.
You can handle this because you have already been through so much and have come through it. This is another obstacle and you will get through it. Just remember one thing my doctor keeps telling me get yourself armed with all the information you need and write down questions and answers and don't be afraid to ask things. This is a journey good or bad and you can do it. Stay strong! Stay in touch.

Paul, that's scary. You're in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they get to the bottom of it soon.
