Cause

Does anyone know what causes electrical problems with the heart? Is it heredity? Diet? Injury? Shock? Spine problems?

Sometimes they're congenital, sometimes they're caused by illness or a side effect of medication, sometimes they never know. Sometimes people are left with electrical problems after other heart procedures like an ablation. It's not diet or lifestyle, those affect your arteries rather than your electrical system.

Another possible reason

could be Strep Throat bacteria. I got it about 10 times in 2 years leading up my first pacer in 1986 but I would wait for a week or 10 days before going to the doctor to get antibiotics. Teaching was stressing me out along with coaching and clubs. So I got sick....often. Result: Strep attacks the heart because of the abundance of both nutrients and oxygen but it likes the nerve tissue and that is where it makes a home until the nerves are destroyed. The nerves die and you have AV block and in goes the pacer to make the connection again.
That's my story and I'm sticking by it....so far...until a doctor can convince me something else happened.
I de-stressed after that and have never had another Strep episode but then I take care of myself.
Hope this helps. There are other ways, of course.

Sarcoidosis

Most of the time it is either genes or caused by a chronic illness.

When I went to do a Stree Test, the doctor said that high level of stress can cause electrical problems. When I saw the cardiologist, he wanted to investigate the cause and when a cardiac MRI was done, cardiac sarcoidosis was identified.

In my case sarcoidosis led to electrical problems in the heart and lungs. Read more about it here - http://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/sarcoidosis/symptoms.htm
