After sugery complications

1 had a pacemaker inserted 3 days ago and am still in pain. Even tho' I had to have it redone the next day. Not the pain on the insertion site but I have pain in my back and chest and find it hard to breathe deeply. I feel that I have palpatations also.

I was wondering if anyone had similar symptoms after their op? I have to say I am a little worried about it but would feel a nuisance calling the hospital as I was only discharged yesterday. Can you help?

Hi,
I would definately call the hospital. This pain could be caused by the surgery, but if you are having pain that is affecting your breathing and you are having palpitations you need to get this checked out. Pain is common after surgery and especially after 2 surgeries, but if this is concerning you then you should either call the hospital or go. I'm a nurse and I'm not 100% this is normal. I don't want to scare you, but what you are describing you be the signs of a blood clot and that is also common after surgery. Please get this checked out.

ER

If you have problems breathing, get yourself to the ER now. It may be nothing, but it's not worth taking a chance. Just go! They can call the gp.

Good luck and please let us know how you are.

Thank you!

Yes, I am worried and I will call the GP now. I'll take your professional opinion. Thank you!

I hope you went to the ER...

I too had terrific pain...I ended up having pericarditis, which is nothing one should fool around with.

If you haven't gone to the ER by now, I'm begging you to go.

I phoned the 'out of hours' doctor who immediately sent an ambulance for me to go to hospital. After hours of blood tests and x rays,it appeared that I had 'air in my right lung' also known as a'collapsed lung'. This definitely happened during my op so in fact I did not even need to have the 2nd op done!! I was hospitalised until today and am so glad to be pain free and at home again. I donot want to see the inside of another hospital for a few more years. Unfortunately, I was due to visit my youngest daughter in California next week and was told today by the specialist that I cannot fly to USA for at least 6 mths.. Was devastated but know that I cannot doanything about that now but roll on August. I hope to keep well now and trust that nothing else will go wrong as this last year has been a nightmare!

Thank you fordtaking time to read and give advice. I hope this experience of mine may help someone else.

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
