a couple of thoughts

"The journey between what you once were and who you are now becoming is where the dance of life really takes place."

"Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some sort of battle."

"Life is a rough road. That’s why man created 4x4’s."

I’m interested in knowing some quotes that help get you through difficult times, or LIFE in general.
I love reading quotes, or making up my own.

Hi Angelie,

I sought the LORD,and he heard me, and delivered me
from all my fears.

A couple of laughs

by MJH - 2008-11-21 03:11:16

I just want you to know I have entered the snapdragon part of my life. Part of me has snapped...and the rest of me is draggin'!

Maxine's Living Will: Last night my sister and I were sitting in the den and I said to her, "I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle to keep me alive. That would be no quality of life at all. If that ever happens, just pull the plug." So she got up, unplugged the computer, and threw out my wine. She's such a -----!

Anesthesiologist's business card: "When you care enough to sleep with the very best!"

Sign over a gynecologist's office: "Dr. Jones, at your cervix!"

On a fence: "Salesmen welcome! Dog food is expensive!"

In the front yard of a funeral home: "Drive carefully. We'll wait!"

Radiator shop: "Best place in town to take a leak!"

Can anyone come up with one for a cardiologist, EP, etc.?? MJ

Hmm.....

Last year, every time I showed up at the ER for a cardio-version or admittance for cardioversion I'd start to hum/sing "Hit Me Baby, One More Time". B. Spears

That had the staff laughing.......

Throughout all the cardiac illness the song "Staying Alive" would always be playing in my noggin and I hummed it almost constantly......to the chuckles of others.

For really tough times, we've all had a few of those......I try to remember that "when the going gets tough, the tough get going".

Great thread, Angelie!

Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of "Treasure Island" was beset by numerous health issues. He is reported to have said:
"Any man can carry his burden, however heavy. until nightfall"
I try to live only one day at a time because yesterday is history and tomorrow is still a mystery.

The fastest man in the world

by ted - 2008-11-21 07:11:36

Paavo Nurmi, the Finnish track star who won numerous Olympic medals was, in his time, called "the fastest man in the world".
Nurmi was horribly burned as a child and his parents were told that he would never walk again. His father didn't give up and said that his son would walk.and he would help train him. Nurmi not only walked, but set Olympic records.
When asked how a person given up to be a cripple could became the fastest man in the world, Nurmi replied:
"I did the things that hurt"

Here's a saying that helped me last year when I had my pacemaker implanted:

God helps us face the music even when we don't like the tune.

Yesterday I had my displaced atrial lead replaced. My brother had planned to take me to the hospital an hour's drive away but I ended up having to make alternate plans.The morning of my surgery appointment my brother took his wife to the ER. She had been in pain for several days ...thought it was caused by a recent fall...but it was becoming unbearable. Eight hours later when I finally got home, my brother called to say that his wife had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer of the blood. Not a good tune indeed. But luckily she has her faith and a very loving family for support.

I'm Lucky

by bobad - 2008-11-21 10:11:40

Every time I go to my doctor's office, I see at least 1 person in far worse shape than me. It makes me want to tell the receptionist to let them go ahead of me. Some of them are so ill that it makes me a little ashamed to even be in the doctor's office. It makes me accept my condition better, and feel lucky I'm not in worse health than I am.

On the lighter side, WC Fields said (approximately)

"I keep a bottle of whiskey handy for medicinal purposes in case I get bitten by a snake, which I also keep handy"

Not words to live by, but they always cheer me up.

Rudyard Kipling

Great thread
In really tough times, I reread "If" by Rudyard Kipling.
Here is a copy to save time in looking it up.
Later,
Charlie

If, by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
