AARP

My husband just turned 55, and has been getting AARP junk mail for years now. I've been tempted on mailing it in and signing us up because it does encourage him to sign up his spouse.
I wonder if I'll be the youngest AARP member if I do that. Hmmm...it's tempting. It's always been a funny idea to me, but I wonder if they would HAVE to oblige, or is there a set age limit.
LOL!

Just copied from the AARP website for you.

Q: How do I add my spouse to my AARP membership account?
A: You can add or change spouse or partner information by visiting our Update Your Account page. Your AARP membership includes your spouse or partner, free!
Q: What if I am too young to join as a full member of AARP?
A: For those under 50 who support the association's goals and objectives, we offer an associate membership. Once an individual celebrates a 50th birthday, the associate member automatically becomes a full member, receives a membership card, and can take advantage of all of our benefits and services.
So, it appears that you can join without your husband being an actual member. I am also sure they would welcome you.
Good luck and have fun.

Thumbs up to AARP

AARP is a real bargain and is well worth the modest cost. I highly recommend that you join. They have an AARP Conference every year in different locations (the one in 2008 was in Washington, DC, the one in 2009 is in Las Vegas). Entrance to the exhibit hall is only $20 and there are hundreds of exhibitors. Much good information and resources. Well worth it; you can spend many hours going through there. The AARP website has a lot of useful information. You also get monthly AARP magazine and also an AARP newletter they send out, with discounts, info on health, medicine, retirement, nutrition, etc.

It's definitely worth it. I'm 54 and I belong. A lot of discounts etc on hotels, rental cars..why not? Every little bit helps!

Yep, go for it.....

We joined CARP (Canadian version) and enjoy the discounts and the magazine.

We used to travel a fair bit and it comes in very handy then!!

You can even get reductions on house/car insurance.....our neighbours have done that and saved a bundle.

People started asking me if I wanted the senior discount while I was still in my forties!!

I've aged very well but my little grandson was the clincher!! lol

Enjoy your 'early retirement' bonuses.

Angelie - Go ahead and sign your hubby up and add yourself as his spouse. There are some nice perks to being part of AARP. The newpaper and magazine they publish and mail out are really good. I do not always agree with their politics, but then I don't always agree with my best friends. LOL, LOL

On my nieces BD 2 years ago I gave her an AARP membership! Initially she was a little annoyed but has since told me how much she likes belonging. You can access their website and check to see what is on their agenda.
