Holter Monitor

I have had a pacemaker for 8years and I had my regular check up last week where I was told everything was fine. Now I have received a letter saying I need to be fitted with a Holter monitor for 24hours to record my heartbeat. Nobody has explained why I need this done. Anybody know why they may be doing this ?

Thanks. letter arrived out of the blue and i was concerned as apppointment is very soon. Wondered what they might have seen. Why would i get irregular heart beat? is that not what the PM is supposed to prevent.

Probably the cardiologist who reviewed your pacer check saw something (such as extra or irregular heart beats) about which more information was needed. Most modern pacers record much the same information as a Holter, and this can be read out during a check. Your 8yo device may not have been able to record enough (or the recording feature may not have been turned on); hence the Holter.
That being said, to my mind it is not acceptable for a doctor to order something without explaining why.

I don't have any tests run without a good explanation.

What is this and why do I need it??

Sometimes they just randomly decide it's been too long since you had one, it could be a mistake, it could be they found something in your last check. I wouldn't do it without a reason first.
