Pain's?

Hi, I 'm a newby just had a pacer put in last Wed Feb 10th. I'm 31 yrs old . I got treated like crap in the hospital and wasn't really told anything. I've got pains from the chest, to the arm pit, down the arm, Back of the arm like in the shoulder blade area . I've tried to stay limted to lifting that arm high. these pains are'nt all at once they y are just a list of the pains and where they are. If anyone can help me and answer me back and let me know if these start to subside? lol. thank you

Pain

I found that I felt best when I got up in the morning and as the day went on, I felt progressively worse. It took me a good six weeks for the pain to subside but everyone is different. I think it took me a little longer than most. As said before, hang in there, it does get better. Just remember not to raise that arm where you are not supposed too. Good Luck!

Lack of communication and info once again!

Hi there, I am so sad that people are still being discharged with out info, I had nothing, not even a piece of paper.

Two issues here with the pain, we all get pain all of the time in most areas of our bodies, but we don't home in on it like we do when we have just had a pm, eg, i know my ankle is hurting at the moment, but i dont take any notice of it.

The other issue is the pain from the op and possibly the pm rubbing on a nerve etc, this should subside within the next few weeks.

Hope you soon feel better

Rest rest and more rest

Hi
I think more than any thing when you recieve a pm it's a shock to the system. I am not going to give you any advice over dealing with the pain, it's different for all of us. If your in alot of pain go back to the doctor.
Sleep is probably the most curative thing you could do right now for your body to heal. Try not to panic your body will be more sensitive for a short time. I know you will feel better soon, just got to give your self time.
After i had my first pm i recovered in around three weeks
I was still feeling up and down, a little fragile, for about two months after. No stopping me after that though!! I am a keen swimmer and was doing about 80 lengths a pop....The pm will dissappear into your life, in a few months you won't notice you've got it. You may even be proud of it, after all it's your backup.

PAIN

by painthorse - 2010-02-18 04:02:17

I am not sure if my message posted so I am re-sending it. I got my first pacer Nov. 2001, a medtronic. I don't recall any problems and I enjoyed life with a better heart rythm. I got my replacement Nov. 2008, a Boston scientific. I have had so much pain that has gone into my shoulder, left chest, arm and up the side of my neck. I was treated by a neurologist and physical therapy with some success. I STILL have so much pain around the pacer. My pacer doc. has told me the pacer is working fine and nothing is wrong. Today, I wanted to be seen and was asked by the nurse if I wanted to wait until by regular visit early in May since it is "just pocket pain". Well, I am pretty discouraged and hope to hang in there until May. Any help?

Thank You All

Hospitals/Dr's. ~ Is This a Trend?

by Carolyn65 - 2010-02-18 06:02:44

I know we all have a lot of gratitudes each and every day, but this is not one. Is this just me, or do a whole lot of people get the "run around" from their doctors/ specialists/hospitals? Are they "holier than thou"?

Seems like I read so many posts, including mine & what I think in my mind, but seems like just the past few years or 3-4, patients are just "put off"/tossed aside because we do not have the knowledge they should have given to us.

My GP is the only one who will "give me the straights" on what I ask him, but that is only if I am not being seen by one of the specialists. If I am being seen by my cardiologist, seems my GP just knows nothing. After about 3 months after the PM implant, my GP can answer all kinds of questions again. Beats me!

Hi,
I had a pacer put in on the 30th Jan, I too had pains under my arm and arm pit. After two and a half weeks now those pains have gone, but I did a lot of sleeping and resting ,the pain killers given to me at the hospital were a great help to!. I still get a stinging feeling around the wound, but have contacted the pacer clinic a couple of times and have been told this is normal. I can't wait to have my months check up on the 3rd March to make sure everything is working ok. (There was a big problem with the leads in the op) I also had pains at the top of my left breast the first week, they told me this was where the wires were bedding in.(Sounds awful)
It's early days yet, so get lots of rest and hopefully we will both be running around with joy soon!

Take care
Sharon

1st. Read all the posts on this site... that will take a while, but the knowledge here is unsurpassable!
I am older than you, 59, but I had my PM on 1/25. Everyone is different, but I too had a LOT of shoulder/neck/back pain. At one point, I told my husband, I thought they had broke my collar bone!. They said don't raise my arm... like that was an option??? But, My discomfort has subsided. I went back to work this week, and of course am using my right arm more, but still being very careful to not raise it up. The extra movement seems to have helped and the stiffness that remains is slowly going away. Just hang in there and know it does get better. I actually have had a few of those moments they talk about on this board this week... where they say you forget you have it! Mine sticks up a lot more than I had anticipated and struggling with that, but the benefits are wonderful.
hang in there... it really does get better!
