In Need Of Advice

Hi everyone! Feb.4, 2010 I had my pacemaker implanted. My heart was punctured and the bleeding was bad. I go back to have it (the pacemaker) checked on Mar. 11, 2010 but not sure if I need to wait til then. Before the pacemaker I was a smoker. Now smoke free! Was never out of breath. Now I get out of breath easy. I am also having pains where the pacemaker is. Even when I take a deep breath. I don't know what it feels like when the pacemaker misfires so don't know if that is what is going on. I had to call my doctors nurse the other day...I coughed up some blood (the size) of a nickle. This happened only once. Was told to call my General Doctor. Refused cause I feel like my Cardio Doctor needs to know. I am now getting scared. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Thanks
Tracie

get someone to see you

I agree you need to call your internist because coughing blood is not most likely cardiac, but it's worrisome that the cardio's office blew you off if the pm hurts that much without even checking you. If you feel like you can't take a deep breath, get to the ER rather than wasting time having each dr tell you to go see the other dr. It's better to overreact than miss something serious.

Getting out of breath is probably related to the puncture but it could be the pm settings or whatever cause the blood.

So sorry you have had to experience a negative impact from your PM implant. Make your GP work for you.

Pain around your incision is not unusual for a few wks. This "uncomfortableness" is dealt with differently by each person. Some PM implants need only Tylenol for the incision area. I took a prescribed pain killer only at night for the first 2-3 nights to sleep.

Blood on the other hand should be reported ASAP. Not to scare you, but just the nickel size you saw, may actually be internal bleeding you can not see.

Seems like from reading the "posts" here that after the cardio. does an implant (mine was $55,000.00, surgery facility & my "energizer bunny" only), that office has no desire to keep you as a patient in need. So many "posts" talk of the lack of the cardio. & their offices wanting to "blow you off". How sad ~

Medicine and most Dr's. are fantastic, but it is the Dr's. who lose their "bedside manner" and forget who they are as a Dr. who are really giving them a "bad name".

Congrats/Gratitudes for not smoking anymore.

Whoops, I have gone into idle, long chit-chat.

Gratitudes to your future of being well again,
