The sun

Hi everyone. Hope everybody is doing good. I had my pacemaker implanted on Feb. 4, 2010 and I am doing good. Just some pain in shoulder and still a little tenderness at the incision site. Throat pain is gone!! I do have a question. I want to take my kids to the beach. Is it safe to be out in the sun for long periods of time with a pacemaker? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question but I am new to the pacemaker and was worried about it.

Enjoy the beach

You should go to the beach, relax and enjoy the day. Just be sure that you don't expose your incision to the sun for too long. It is still pretty tender new skin, and a sunburn would not feel too great.
The pacemaker does not know if you are in the sun, snow, ice or rain. The warm weather should make no difference whatsoever.

I went to FL a week after getting my PM. The Dr. said to keep it covered & not to put any lotion/ sun screen on it. (The incision still wasn't healed)
Since yours is so new, I'd keep it covered. The burn factor wouldn't be good for the scarring, but the PM itself doesn't know it's in sun. (If that makes sense?) LOL

Thank you to you all!! And good luck to you Howard! My kids decided they did not want to go to the beach! I told them that was fine but next week I am going with or without them! LOL!
