Random thoughts :)

I've been thinking about how we all deal with these little pacemakers in our bodies. All the newness to many of us.
The daily ups & downs with it.
I think since Jan 26th 2010 (implant day) I haven't felt it click, or flutters or some other annoying aspect of it maybe 2 times. Trust me, I HATE those scary feelings!! I'm waiting for the day to come I don't even think about it! LOL
With that said, something that is helping me is trying to practice acceptance. I'm working on this in many other aspects of my life too. Let me tell you, it isn't that easy some days! LOL
But what other choice do we REALLY have? Is it something I want to worry about daily? NO!!
Is it something I have control over? NO!
I can work on making "ME" the healthiest, best I can be for the rest of the years I have on this planet, but other than that, I'm not in charge of the long term plan!!
Something that helps me is the
Serentity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
Courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
That's where the acceptance of this little PM in my body comes from. It's there, it's working & I need it.
It doesn't matter what higher power one believes in. Just know that that's who is in charge. Not us.
We can fret & worry & literally make ourselves sick with worry & that isn't a good thing health wise. Plus, we forget about living if we're stuck in the negative worrying!!
Live each day to the fullest. Find joy in simple things, and most of all, count our blessings & when we're doing that last one, include our little pacemakers.
Have a great Sunday all!

Yes what you said is so TRUE! I love that prayer and when something happens in our life that we didn't want to what do you do, either you can go on and make the best of it or let it drag you down. It is lots easier said than done but I think the more we tell our selves this after time it becomes ingrained. Thank you for this thought :-)

Busy

by LS - 2010-04-18 02:04:07

Oh Peter, trust me, I'm busy!
I watch my 6 year old & 4 year old grandaughters all week.
My morning starts at 6 AM & is almost over at 6 PM or whenever Mom or dad gets to soccer practice or ballet.LOL
Any "free" time I might have is seeing & spending time with the other 3 grandkids. Attending their sports activities etc.
I don't "dwell" on my PM, but I do have thoughts & feelings about it.
Those can occur at any time of the day or night.

If you keep busy you wont have time to dwell on it. Peter

We have nearly the same PM Birthdays...mine was just a day before yours. I hated mine at first...was very uncomfortable. But as the month's go by, I "forget" about it more and more just as I feel better and better. Thank you for being you, Liz. May the road you travel have less "bumps" and more smooth pavement!

Gratitudes: How True ~ ~

by Carolyn65 - 2010-04-19 11:04:10

Liz, thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of work. What a breath of fresh air to read this once again.

This old prayer has saved and brightened many lives.
The only problem I have is when I do get into a "fizz", problem or just a "bump in my road", I forget about the prayer. I have always wanted to find & carry copies.

Thanks for sharing with all our PM friends,

Carolyn,
Hallmark stores carry small copies of the prayer/poem. A wallet sized laminated card.
Up by their cash registers.

LS I appreciate your comments. It resonates with me as I feel that getting a biventricular pacemaker has not only been a physical journey of many tests ,including a heart biopsy and 3 ablations for atrial flutter and finally an impant. It has also been an emotional journey of having to deal with my own mortality and living with my pal a medtronics 8042 the size of a small pickup truck.I have have practiced acceptance and gratitude for the blessings I have in my life and that after 5 months am starting to find a place of peace.

by jessie - 2010-10-07 08:10:04

it is the most calming prayer i know and i have used it to to get through things but actually am using it every day now as am going thru a bit of a rough patch. the good thing is i don't have to steer the plane anymore as i am leaving that up to the guy upstairs. thanks all jessie and warm wishes

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
