Loss of breath

Hey everybody,Im new here, but ive had a pacemaker since i was 17.I was just wandering?... is it normal to have shortness of breath 8 days after a pacer implant. im 30 years old now, i'm male, and this is my 2nd pacer. The only time it seems to happen is when i go outside in the cold air and do something,.Or when come back inside, it will take my breath. Its fine any other time. I can even get up and excerise in my house with ease and breath normal. but as soon as i go outside and try todo anything it hits me. My heart speeds up as well, and i get light headed,.anybody ever experience this or know somebody that has?. Thanks!

Chris

If it's new since your replacement, I'd ask them the check the settings and see if anything changed with the new one. Sometimes they don't put the new one to the same settings as the old one.

It's possible for our hearts to change over time. I've had a pm for 16 yrs now and about a year ago my rate started jumping up on exertion, even little things like walking up the steps. After trying a few things to fix it, I ended up on a low dose of beta blockers and I feel pretty close to 100% now.

New pacemaker and new symptoms. As Tracey said, you need to see your docltor. My guess is some pacemaker settings need to be changed.

YES SETTINGS NEED CHANGING

Get your settings fine tuned. Almost certainly your heart is not coping with the higher rates when you are active outside. They could turn off your rate response for a week and then you could see what happens. Cheers Peter

Another possibility

Suddenly breathing cold air into your lungs can cool the blood going to your heart and affect things. We normally don't notice it, but with a pacer involved as well..maybe.

just a thought,

Thanks for the helps guys. I called my doctor, and she said that my pacer shouldn't make me have shortness of breath.. which i think is a little strange.. I never had the problem before the surgery. and im still having some episodes of breathing trouble and my heart will race real fast at the same time.it usually will end in a minute or so.
I had a episode today as i was getting out of the shower. i had to immeditly sit down ,cuase i thought i was gonna pass out.i started sweating, and my heart was beating really fast. after i sit down.my heart rate slowed way down and i was fine. but i still feel kinda weak and tired most of the time after the surgery, which has been 2 weeks today...i just feel like im not gonna heal up. maybe im rushing things.. but with this new pacemaker. it just dont feel the same like it did with the other one.

I was givin Atenolol a month before the operation (Beta-Blocker) I took it for 3 days.and it made me feel worse. so i quit taking it. and when i got my pacer. my doc wanted me to start taking it agian... is there any other beta blockers that dont make ya feel awful?.

You know you're wired when...

Airport security welcomes you.
