Sky Diving...

Me and a couple of friends are wanting to go sky diving for charity - apart from some people calling us mad, my main problem is can I do it even though I have a pacemaker?!

Better Thing You Can Do

Just remember that parachute has straps that are cinched up tight to keep it from flying off when it is opened. Be sure one of those straps is not over your pacemaker. When that chute opens it will give you quite a jerk so if a strap is over the pacemaker it could damage the pacemaker leads. It is not likely to hurt the PM but it can hurt you and the leads.

May I suggest that rather than sky diving why not try jumping over a 10‘ wall on your bicycle? Not many people have done that and when you hit the ground it will be about like hitting the ground with a parachute and there will be no straps to harm the PM or leads.

Anybody that jumps out of a perfectly good airplane is a little bit nuts.

Hi Charli, I have been skydiving and the straps are the thing that would cause some concern. I would suggest that you add an extra layer or two of padding over the pacemaker site. My straps actually came almost to the middle of my chest and didn't really affect the pacemaker site. I have not jumped since the pacemaker because my hubby has begged me not to. So, ok.... I told him I would honor his request. I do a lot of other things that are not your "normal" activities for a woman with a pacemaker but then again, I have never been normal at anything. hee hee...
So Charli, be careful have some fun and used your common sense. If you don't feel safe don't jump. leave it to someone else, if you do feel safe, pad up, buckle up and away we go!

Happy jumping!
