Removal of Icd

Anyone here had their Icd removed. I just went through 3 surgeries. The Vascular Surgeon said he goofed and thought it was funny and he's on the top 10 of Florida.
Yes my wife filed a lawsuit. When fixing a loose lead he did not connect the other lead properly which also let to stripping the icd which had just been replaced a few months ago.
I want it removed as soon as my heart is strong enough but my heart was weak when it was first put it. I don't have high cholesterol or hypertension. They said a virus and drinking lots of water weakened my heart. The lead was recalled and fractured then they took out the lead and the whole Icd and it was replaced. Its been one thing after another. Avoid Florida Hospital if possible at least the one on Rollins. I'm venting sorry about that. My words are messed up. Anyway would like to know if anyone has a good vascular surgeon around the Orlando area they have used. Many Thanks.

Removing ICD

Yes,sounds like a mess. No wonder you're so stressed.

I agree with ElectricFrank that you need a consult with a different doctor. Also, I believe what he means by "standby mode" is that you can have your ICD "shock" function turned off without actually having the surgery to have it removed -- not a long-term solution, but you might consider it as an interim measure if you're desperate to have it off while you decide. Sorry I don't know any docs in the Orlando area. There's a rating site that lists names here:
http://www.healthgrades.com/local-doctors-directory/by-specialty/clinical-cardiac-electrophysiology/florida-fl/orlando-clinical-cardiac-electrophysiologists

but I have NO idea if those sites are actually valid. At least it gives you some names! Good luck.

Sounds like a medical mess.

My only advice is to not let a bad experience with an incompetent doctor keep you from having a pacemaker or ICD if you need it. I would suggest finding a different medical team to evaluate where you are as far as your hearts healing. Then make a decision as to the best course of action. If the current one is working properly (or just in standby mode) and isn't causing you any other medical problems there is no rush to remove it. Some of these viruses tend to be recurrent and it is a good backup.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
