itchiness

I havea wierd question....is it possible to be allergic to the leads or something like the pacemaker itself??? I mean ever since I have had the PM implanted, I have intense intchiness leading from the inscion site down to the underneath of my breasts to middle of my chest bone.. to my arm pits!!!! its insaine!!!!!! There is no rash..no red ness..just a deep underlying itchiness..thats driving me insaine!!!!! I am ready to peel my skin off!!!!! anyone else have this problem????

I thought I had read about this problem some time ago and
went to Google again and looked. Yes, it is possible, but it is rare.

You might consider going to go to Google and ask your question. They have a number of case histories of people having allergic reactions to their pacemaker and/or leads and the remedies used to correct the problem. The article that really got my attention was the one where they used a gold plated pacemaker to solve an 86 year old man's problem.

Check for infection

A friend of mine with a PM experienced an itch and ignored it for a while and it turned out to be an infection that was difficult to cure. He had to have the PM removed and reinstalled on the other side.

OK I thought I was nuts. I am so glad that I am not nuts. I have that deep itch where the leads are too and I am also allergic to metals like you. I hope I don't have to have this thing removed and have a gold one put in. I do not want to repeat the performance til the batteries run down in 7 years or so.

I have been allergic to metal my whole life, and no one asked me. and when i asked they told me its covered with this coating that its impossible to be allergic. I have the symptoms of what i did before i had the PM put in. i am dizzy sleepy fainting etc. they told me they will have to put in a 14k gold on after all the testing. it feels like it is coming out of my chest and it still hurts from the surgery i had in April 2013. i never met the doctor that put in my PM and I didn't see him after the surgery either. which i thought was wrong in my eyes because all my other surgeries the doctor came into me and told me everything that would have to me in the OR. I will keep all updated as they run the test they need and bring in more specialist to check things out.
