Hot tubs and Hot Springs

Hi All
I have had company for two weeks and more coming in about 10 days. I have been trying to catch up on yard work so have not had time to check in here much. Anyway, does anyone have an accurate answer to this question? Is it okay to use hot tubs and hot springs when you have a pacemaker? I can't seem to get a definite yes or no from the pacemaker clinic, GP or cardiologist. What are your thoughts please.
Thanks from Howard

probably yes

Just having a pm will not prevent you from using a hot tub but the underlying reason why you have it might make it a bad idea. Just be aware that your hr can get higher. If you feel bad get out.

Agree with Tracey

No contraindications for soaking in hot water if you have a PM, but other health issues at hand or underlying conditions might cause you to feel ill.
For instance soaking in hot water for any length of time causes my heart to race and my blood pressure to plummet. The stress on my heart and body makes me feel weak, tired, dizzy, and diaphoretic. Needless to say...I don't hang around hot-tubs too much.
ALWAYS have someone with you, or around you, and like Tracey said if you feel ill- get out.
I have gotten in them for social gatherings but don't stay in very long at all. I then get out and continue to mingle and visit with my friends. After a while, I'll get back in for just a few minutes. I've found that my friends have no idea of why I'm getting in and out, and it really doesn't matter since I'm still there with them hanging around.
Try and see how you feel.

Thanks

Thanks Tracey and Angelie for your help and information. I will give it a try and see how it goes. I always feel better getting advice from others that actually have a PM and have some experience with these kinds of issues. Much appreciated.

I get in my hot tub about 5 nights a week year round and have not had any issues. My Doctor and Cardiologist did not forsee any issues with it. I know it helps me relax and un wind and the end of the day, I would say, jump in and enjoy!

one when-ever I can which is not much or enough. Went to Fairbanks last May & got in the Chena Hot Springs & then did the inside hot pool (fed by the spring) & the the hot tub (also fed by the spring). Hah! Folks I was with on the trip thought I was never going to come out. I am 100% paced & I had no problems. Wish I could have stayed longer. So that's my story. Hate the hot weather but love a hot tub/pool. Go figure.

Hope that helps,

Janet

I'm convinced :)

It sure is nice to have all you guys to help. I am now convinced. We are in British Columbia and have visitors from South Carolina coming in about 2 weeks. We have some gorgeous hotsprings I want to take them too and it is an all day beautiful trip. I can look forward to it now that I feel confident I can enjoy the hotsprings too. Thanks for all your help. What a great group! Hope all is well with each of you.

Hot Tub? ~ ~

Even before my PM implant, for years, my Dr's. have all told me to be a lil' more watchful in a hot tub and not go alone. They said my BP/meds might be the problem.

Love, love, love hot tubs.

I have a hot tub on the patio and use it twice a day. Really the only thing to be aware of for a week or so is to keep the incision area out of the water. Like any other injured area it could be susceptible to infection. I went to the tub the day I came home from the hospital after both implant and recent replacement. I just taped a piece of plastic wrap over the bandage in case I splashed water on it plus sitting on a seat that kept it above water level.

I don't run my hot tub real hot like some do. In the winter I keep it at 101, and in the summer I set it to 100.

It's a great way to relax and socialize.
