whole body vibration

Hi
Do any of you have any experience or advice on using a "whole body vibration" machine? I was at a home show and was quite impressed with what they can do but wonder about using one if you have a pacemaker. The distributor did not seem to know. Thanks for any help and information.

Vibrating Machine

Hi Howard,

I have a couple of avenues of thought on the vibrator machines. One is just like I told JB. (above) who had questions about his heart rate speeding up when he walked. If the rate response is on the vibrator machine is almost a certainty to cause the heart rate to go up, maybe considerably.

Another thought is what causes the machine to vibrate. Is it done through the use of and elliptical drive wheel then while it will certainly set a rate response to work, I can't think of anything else it would bother.

If it is done through the use of magnets, that could be an entirely different can of worms. I would have to guess the magnets would be pretty strong to vibrate the entire body. If that is so they could be big enough to interfere with the operation of a pacemaker.

But having never seen one of these machines, all I'm doing is guessing.

I was told no . Doc didn't seem to know what this machine was so was told to get in touch with the makers of it. They said that it is unsafe for use for people with PM because of the vibrations and it hasn't been tested yet on PM people. And they advise anyone not to use any exercise equipment that can cause injury or death. Could shake PM loose or wires .
I was very disappointed as I used one before PM and loved it. But will not chance it now .
Hope this helps.

Binky I'm not sure its to do with shaking the wires out, I trampoline and that doesnt shake them out. I think its more to do with your pacemaker being confused and thinking that you are doing exercise therefore if you have rate response on your heartrate will go up when it does not need to,. Also as Smitty says, they are highly magnetic. My gym says they are an absolute NO NO

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
