Thank you :-)

Dear All,
A special thank to Qverty, Wenditt, the fish, Ro, Dwight, Thomas and Carolyn65 for your so kind answers. I am ... impressed and was so touched this morning when I saw your messages on my iphone while going to work. It gave me some energy and I had the impression I could walk ... 12 minutes (was 10 yesterday so ... improving :-)).
It is really a great support and I really appreciate it. It is important for me, as well as for all of us to be able to share our queries with people like you, who understand what we are talking about. We do not need anybody who will complain on us,, we just need people who can understand.
I still have one question ... how long does it take to get really well ? I know a human being can differ from each other, but approximately should I consider 3 to 6 months ?

Again thank you so much for your postings ... You did make me very happy and smiling early this morning :-)
All the best & take care,
Chrissie

I feel so lucky to have people like you in my today's life !!!
Indeed, I thought 6 months would be the right timing ... maybe bit longer for me due to the water in my mind. Patience is the key .... indeed.. the thing is that I am a VERY patient woman with the others .... but not with myself. Nevertheless, I have to learn to be patient and what are really representing 6 or 8 months in a total lifetime ?!!!! OK with you , for oncen I have to listen to my body .. and thereafter can be back to 200 % (yes 100% would be maybe enough to start with !!).
I am so used to move, to run, to scream my energy all over the world that this is still difficult for me to accept my state . As I told you, I am linked to the positive attitude ....

I am supposed to travel to Helsinki in 10 days for business and I still do not know if I can : one part of my body is too tired, and the other part is pushing me to go there (maybe to prove to the others I still have my full competence) . Would you think this is too early to travel ? For the time being, I am still working partially (I have shortened my working hours) due the water in my heart ...

Thanks for all your advices, it helps me a lot. it is strange how it is easy to speak to each other even so we did know each other two days ago !!! Life is so crazy and so cool !!!

Happy Easter and as they say in Swedish; Glad Påsk :-)
and in French : Joyeux Pâques

PS I have now a "silly" question (be sure I am nevertheless not blond !!) how can you see that I have answered to your postings when I am not posting it as a new message ... ???

PS1 I just realize I did lie in my first message : my messages are not shorter lol

I traveled a week after surgery. No problems & had my Dr.s OK.

good question

by The Fish - 2010-04-01 09:04:25

Hi Chrissie
Good question about how long will it take. I am heading towards my 3 week anniversary and wonder the same things as you. I know we are not suppose to wish our lives away but I can't wait for at least my 6 week anniversary so I can at least do some of the more physical things I want to do. Anyway, all these nice people in this group are teaching me that "patience is the key" so we will just take a deep breath while our hearts beat a nice normal beat and carry on with enjoying life. All the best and Happy Easter to everyone.
Howard

Good Morning Chrissie

Everyone heals differently. When I went back for my 6 week check up, my PM was "sticking out" quite far. At least the leads were. My Dr. pushed it down as hard as he could. But, he noted. Things would continue to change for up to 6 months. He was hoping my PM would "settle in" more. But bottom line, he said it would be 6 months before we can consider we are totally healed. There seems to be a progression, One week feel good, two weeks realize we are not well, probably because we tried to do too much, 3 weeks wanting to move on. After about 6 weeks, you can move your arm so you think all is healed, and it is better. But, according to my Dr, it can take up to 6 months for the inside to heal and get where it is going. I know that mine still "itches" on the "inside" and the muscle is still "stiff" near the incision site. (Mine was put in 1/25) When I hit 6 months I will let you know if the stiffness and itchness and stuff is gone.
Also.. You seem to have had some additional problems with the water build up. This will probably prolong your recovery a bit, but don't give up. Keep adding a minute or so of walking, but remember to listen to your body and rest is necessary for healing so give yourself time to heal and recover.
Have a good Easter.

Time passess quickly

believe it or not, you will soon get to a point where you often forget that you have this in your body (unless you are having some complications). I think 6 months is about when I stopped thinking about it, looking at it, wondering if it was working okay, etc . I even find that when traveling, I have to remind myself when I get to tsa that I can't go through the scanner. Be happy that this technology exists and have a great holiday!

It all depends

Like the fish said, at your 6 week check up you should get the OK to resume physical activities within reason. I am thinking if you request to go back to kick boxing for example....they may say no LOL! Everyone is different though. I've read posts where people go back and forth a lot to have settings changed etc...so I guess that could prolong it.

I was given the OK to drive a week later so that helped. I also went back to work a week later and was able to be preoccupied.

I can tell you I am 7 months post implant and my left arm is still not the same but I'm pretty sure that's my own fault. I wore that sling too long and then favored it even more than recommended. So I'm pretty sure my muscle and joint are a little screwy because I babied it so much. So I go to the gym and use the bands to try to make that shoulder stronger.

Try getting a sports bra. Someone here suggested it to me and it was the best idea ever. The regular bra straps would ride on the site and irritate it. But a really fat strap on a sports bra kind of covers the whole thing so the seat belt and such won't bother it.

You are doing great! Keep up the great work and positive attitude!!!

You are so funny!!! If you post a new message right here, we will find it if we go back to your original post. If you write it as a new post, it shows up on the front page.
Thanks for the multiligual greetings. I knew the French, but not the Swedish (and my heritage is Swedish so I'll use that now).

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
