Thank you

I am a paramedic so I KNOW that the human body is only a machine and machines break. Sometime they go their whole life running just fine and others need work as soon as they come off the assembly line. However even being a paramedic didn't prepare my psyche for the need of a pacemaker at age 38, I mean, c'mon! Pacemakers are for OLD people lol. (No offense intended to ANYONE on this site or elsewhere) I was diagnosed with bradycardia due to SSS. My heart rate which normally runs in the 80's resting was down to the low 40s and occasionally dipping into the 20s. Sitting there in the ER I was watching and interpreting my own ECG and EKG and in the back of my mind I knew what was going to happen. Once again, even knowing and preparing myself before the Doc could tell me didn't help. I am now an appliance. I want to say thank you to everyone on this site. Reading through here I see people of all ages with pacers leading normal lives. So what if we are battery powered? It is a lot better alternative that having the SA node conk out completely, go junctional, then into A-fib followed by V-tach. Once again, thank you to all of you.

Hey, just think of your pacemaker as a kind of MOT. I've got one at only 15 years old. It doesn't bother me, hope it all goes well for you! :)

Good on ya!

I got my PM just before my 30th birthday so as far as I am concerned I am never older than 30! I've had my PM for going on 7 yrs now & have found this site to be a God send. It is uplifting to see the encouragement people give to each other, it is a great place to talk about what is going on with your PM, to know that you aren't alone with concerns, fears or questions we all have. I can honestly say I have found being thankful & positive about my PM has helped a lot (not to say you don't get the why me days?) Hope it all goes well for you. Cheers.

You know you're wired when...

You trust technology more than your heart.

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
