I just had my first pacemaker implanted last week. I am taking Verapamil and Sotalol. I have developed a cough with lots of phlegm. I am wondering if anyone else experienced this or if I may have just picked up some type of chest cold while at the hospital. I am going to my primary care physician tomorrow to get checked but I am a little concerned.

Last week!

I had one placed last week too, had a pneumonia shot. The doctor told me that due to me being in the hospital and the anesthesia, a bit of a cold and being tired is expected. I am giving it 6 weeks, before I worry or complain!

Most of the blood pressure meds that end in pril cause a dry cough.

bronchitis

Well, my primary care doc looked at me today and said I have a touch of asthmatic bronchitis. Great! So he gave me a breathing treatment and some meds. I tell you the last year and a half have really sucked healthwise for me. This is getting old fast.
Coughing too...

I'm brand new to all of this and find that I've had or am having some of the same problems as everyone else. I have some unique "symptoms" since I have low blood pressure. They are trying to do a balancing act with the medications since most seem to lower blood pressure so I'm battling blood pressure dips. They had me taking 2 Ramiprils daily and reduced to 1. Please post if you find a solution to the coughing. One of my meds...can't remember which had side effect of coughing.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Anaesthetic

Sory to hear about your cough. I think I read somewhere that an anaesthetic can give us a cough. I know I always cough and am chesty and raspy after one. Get your doc to check you out and ask him.
Some BP meds make folks cough. You may be shifting a lot of phlegm that has been there for a while. Ask your doc when you see him.
