Just got accepted into Nursing School!

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to share some thrilling news that I just recently found out about. I got accepted into nursing school!!. Ever since I got my pm I have wanted to help others that suffer from cardiac problemsI think it would be so NEAT to be a pacemaker/ICD nurse that genuinely understands what the patient is going through. Just though I'd share! :)

Well, that is just the greatest news! You will make a great nurse. You have the desire and ablility to really make a difference in peoples lives. What a great way to begin Easter weekend.
I can hardly wait to read of your journey through nursing school and that you are ready to graduate. Many of us here will be sending you their support.

Now you start on a journey with some wonderful aspirations, but be prepared for the establishment to do everything in their power to convert you to one of the "standard models".

I have had two friends that became doctors with the same plans. One came out the far end with his humanity still intact, but it wasn't easy.

Go for it,

frank

Hello from a Cardiac Nurse

by lenora - 2010-04-02 01:04:37

I've been a CVICU/cath lab nurse for many years and I'm thrilled to hear that you've chosen cardiac nursing. Get yourself some good solid nursing experience first because there's no substitute for that. Don't let the naysayers and those people who are obviously not nurses discourage you into believing that you will be anything other than the caring compassionate person that you are already. Warmest regards from me, Lenora

Good for you nursing is a challenging and rewarding career (I've been one for 17years) You will be a even better nurse because of what you've been through. And establishment doesn't change our beliefs or desires to help others. Best of luck to you!!

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

Read Lenora's message and pay it the most attention!. I too have been a cardiac critical care nurse and cath lab nurse for the past 25 years and am still working. You have already learned a very valuable lesson, how you want to interact with your patients. You will reap wonderful rewards as a cardiac nurse. First get some solid nursing experience, so you are not overwhelmed with the pacemaker program. A good cardiology floor is a great place to learn. All the best in your studies.
I think all your patients will be very lucky to have you as their nurse.

I am so thrilled for you.

I too would LOVE to be able to work in the medical field since having my pacer back in 2004 but I think I'm too old now to go back to school...lol.

Best of luck to you.

Congratulations. That would be a great place for you to work, having a PM. I'm a nurse as well but never really worked in Cardio. So I was as lost as anyone when it came to PM/ICD's. On the morning of my admission for my ICD, I was lucky enough that the nurse who came in to take my vitals, also had one. When I was boo hoo-ing about being too young for one, she lifted up her scrubs and showed me her scar and her "little lump". Turns out, we had the same EP and she was able to really put me at ease. She also had a device implanted on the opposite side of her chest that regulated her extremely high BP, so I quickly quit my belly-aching! Anyway, you could be very valuable in that capacity, so stick with it (it's not easy!) and work hard. I think you're gonna make a wonderful nurse. Again, my congratulations.

your understanding will be valuable

Congratulations....that is one of the things that was most disturbing to me, was the indifference the nurses displayed about how sick I was on the drugs, (that were wrong for me) 2nd trip, and on the 1st visit, my heart was beating all over the place, but not dropping, then suddenly it did drop on the 4th day of being in the hospital.....the kept asking me over and over again what happened in the past...and could I prove my heat beat dropped to 33 beats...my personal dr. finally called and said *read* his report...apparently no one bothered to read the report, I hand carried to the hospital...

Good for you, your experience will be so very valuable.

You know you're wired when...

You’re officially battery-operated.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
