I'll give you my translation of what the doctor was telling you.

"Borderline base LV Dysfunction" means your left ventricle may or may not be operating at its maximum capability all the time. This failure, if there is one, could be associated with your V-Tach in that the extremely fast beat that comes with the V-Tach is not letting the left ventricle pump as much blood as it should be pumping.

By virtue of the fact that you have an ejection fraction of 50% to 55%this tells me the LV Dysfunction is not real bad, but probably does warrant watching over the coming years. An ejection fraction of 50% to 70% is considered the optimum range. The exact number depends on the patient and the doctor. I think you will find that many of us PM Club members have an EF of less than 50% (mine is in the 40 to 50% range) and we do pretty well.

The arrhythmia you mention is common and is not anything to worry about unless it gets bad enough to cause you pain or interfere with your normal activity. Again, the arrhythmia you list is common to many of us. I'm sure your doctor is checking this and will prescribe the appropriate treatment as needed.

Now to express an opinion on what your problem really means. MY GUESS is you are in the early stages of heart disease. How fast this disease will progress, or just how serious it may become is one for your doctor to answer.

Good luck,

Smitty

What kind of tests did you have to arrive at the diagnosis, and what lead you to have the tests?

That would help in understanding how serious it is. Keep in mind that with exactly the same results you are likely to get a different prognosis from different doctors. It can also vary with how good your insurance is.

My greatest risk factor is having Medicare and a good supplement plan, which qualifies me as a "Cash Cow".
