LAWNMOWER

Having jaw and chest pain when cutting grass with commercial Exmark Lazer mower.
Docs office says that no indication of problems is visible when pacemaker is checked.
Background: Bypass patient. Cut grass without problems, until first attempt at mowing after pacemaker was installed. Same every time I have attempted since.
Seat is elevated and to the front of the engine and with shielding of engine shroud and other obstacles in the path of any emf possibly generated by flywheel magnets, I wonder how this can affect the pacemaker.
Pacemaker installed in August, 09, and from Boston Scientific. Is there something I should ask them when I make contact?
Hope to contact rep this week in an attempt to learn what I can do to determine if problem can be corrected.
Don't relish the thought of having this chore taken from me as restrictions are already depressing.
Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

Go to Google and do a search on 'pacemaker' then drop down to the bottom of the page and do a 'search within results' to narrow your data.

Read until you are tired. Some mowers do and some don't cause interference.

Send an email to Exmark and ask them.

It may be time to get that remote control feature for the mower.

Cause of Pain

by SMITTY - 2010-04-13 12:04:18

Hello Ray,

Your symptoms do not sound like what I would expect a person to have if the operation of their pacemaker was being influenced by EMF. If that happened I would expect you to experience an irregular heart beat. However, having had my pacemaker for 10 years, I have learned to never say what a pacemaker can or cannot do or cause. One thing I would suggest is note how long it takes for the pain to go away after you shut down the engine on the lawn mower. If the pain is being caused by EMF effects on your pacemaker it should go away in less than a minute.

I see you have had bypass surgery, I have been down that road myself and I had severe pain like you describe before I had my surgery. Did you? Also, you say "Docs office says that no indication of problems is visible when pacemaker is checked." From that I take it you did not see or talk to the doctor. If that is correct, I would suggest that you see him if at all possible.

Good luck,

Smitty
