Chest Discomfort

I had a pacemaker installed on 04/01/2010. I seemed to be getting better everyday and recovering fairly well. Last night and today I have a pain/discomfort in the upper part of my chest. I had this same type of pain/discomfort for the first 2 weeks or so and then it seemed to go away and has now come back. I feel it especially when I bend over or set down quickly. I thought it may just be the wires going from the heart to the pacemaker causing this discomfort. Any suggestions? Thanks.

feeling better

Sometimes we feel better, do too much, and backslide a bit and don't even realize it until the soreness comes back.

You really shouldn't feel the leads going through your chest, but discomfort as the pocket heals is normal.

If you get redness, swelling, streaking, anything unusual around your incision, or if you can't take a deep breath or find yourself dizzy, be seen asap. The rest is just part of healing and perfectly normal the first 4-8 weeks.

My pacemaker was implanted on March 19 and I have good days where the pain has lessened and bad days. I think it is all part of the healing process. I also feel pain when bending over or stretching. People tell me that it takes a good 6 - 8 weeks for these pains and aches to go away. In the meantime I take Advil and tylenol to help the pain and my doctor also prescribed a pain killer. You might want to ask your cardiologist to prescribe something for the pain. Hope this helps you.

A pacemaker suddenly quitting is no more likely to happen than you are to be struck by lightening.
