Theme parks

Evening all!

I had my pacemaker fitted a couple of months ago so i'm now at the point where i am pretty much back to normal. A group of friends are planning a visit to a theme park with loads of roller coasters etc. Are we able to go on these rides with a pacemaker??

Thanks for reading

Jon

Shouldn't cause an issue

My cardiologist told me that most activities should be ok. The ICD may notice a rapid heart beat, but usually roller coaster are designed to be thrilling one second and low key the next, so it shouldn't cause any issues.

Hope this helps,
Ed

Sorry to threadjack, but Renee is that correct that if you have a pm you cannot even be in the same room as a MRI machine, even when it's not running? I didn't know that. Good to know because I have to take my mom in for one and I am sure I would be escorting her into the MRI room.

magnets

The only thing that you need to be careful for is for rides that have strong magnets in them. That could effect your PM. I was born with CCHB and I know growing up I never paid attention to the signs that warned you not to go on if you had heart conditions. They post them more to cover themselves. If i did follow all the signs I would've been very bored at amusement parks. (love the Turkish Twist and dragged my hubby on the Tower of Terror on our honeymoon) I haven't been to a big amusement park since I got my PM but it wouldn't stop me from going on those rides. (I don't like roller coasters so I don't need to worry about them)

PM issue?

Don't know if pm and rollercoasters are a no-no, but let me tell you what my chiropractor said. He told me that summer is his busiest season and his patients often call him from the amusement park with back and neck problems. After he told me what some of these super fast rides with twists and turns can do to the body I've decided to stay away. Now the carousel is more my speed.

Amusement park rides

I have had my pm for 5 yrs. and went to big park last month. I rode the biggest coasters they had and had a great time-no trouble. I just watch out for magnets when I'm first walking in the gates. If there are other one's I need to be aware someone please let me know! Otherwise I've been on many rides and felt great. Unless it specifically states not to, I don't worry about it. Have fun.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
