I just had a pacemaker put in two weeks and a day ago. I am quite swollen still. How long does that take to go down to normal? I also get twinges ...it that normal? I am still having a hard time adjusting. I only found out 3/30 that I needed a pacemaker or I had a blockage after the stress test I was told it would be a pacemaker and had the surgery the following Monday 4/5. This site seems to be helping a bit. I do not know anyone in my circle of friends who has a pacemaker so I have no one to discuss anxiety with. Thanks for any help! nm

Welcome

Welcome to our little club. This is a great group. They are all great and ready to share.
I received my PM on 1/25. It took me a little longer to bounce back. Don't know why. At my 6 week check up, I thought most of the swelling was about gone. After he pushed on it and tried to get it lower, it was swollen again. He said it would probably continue to "seat" and get where it is going for a while longer Up to 6 MONTHS. I thought he was just putting me off because my "wires" stick up pretty high. But, since my appointment, and his pushing on it, I have noticed that it may be a little lower and not stick up as much. May be wishful thinking, or I am getting used to it. I also still have .. lets see... not pain... not discomfort, just sensitivity in the area around my incision. It is not red or anything and I really believe that the swelling is really gone now so I think it is OK. I know that the wires so close to the surface can be an issue, but am satisfied that they are watching it and not in a hurry to jump back into another surgery.
Remember you have only had yours for two weeks. Give yourself time to heal. Every one heals differently and you have to do what YOUR body tells you is right. Just listen to it.
Be patient with yourself. And feel free to ask questions and vent on this site. Goodness knows we have all done that!!!

I just want to thank all of you who responded to me already today. It has really given me a lift. I feel so much better that I can vent here and ask questions and I might hear from someone who has experienced the same things. I hope you all have a beautiful day!!

It can take some time for the swelling to go down. Have you tried a heating pad on low? I did that for 15 min several times a day and it helped. The tingling and twinges, is it around the incision? That's just part of healing, the nerves knitting back together.

Anxiety is perfectly normal also! As you heal and feel better, and as you learn more about how they work, it should go away on its own. Feel free to vent and ask questions here. We've all been there and are happy to help you get through it.

It took mine quite a while before the swelling went down. My implant was Jan.26 2010. It's just about normal now. LOL
The anxiety for me was the worst part! Ugh.
I remember not wanting to drive the same route that I had been on when I had my "episodes." Since the PM I have driven them, and lo & behold.....no problems!! LOL
The PM has truly made me sane! LOL
Good luck to you & speedy recovery!

TraceyE has good, educated information for all the questions on the PM site. She helped me through. There are almost 11,000 members of the PM Club.

Listen to your own body talking to you. I have had my ablation/PM since 10/09 and it took a few weeks, even several weeks, just like my medical people said, to get much better. Even now, if I really over exert myself, I may/may not have a lil' twinge or a slight "pull" from the incision area, but no pain. Everyone comments on how narrow, nice and smooth my incision looks.

Just give yourself plenty of time, do not rush "stuff", do what your medical people tell you and do listen to what your body tells you. Listen ~
