infection, tenderness at sight,BP meds doubled

I now after 1 month have an infection at the incision. It will be 5 weeks since placement of pacemkaer Monday. Have been given antioboitics. Pus now...not had that before. Now gauze pad sticks and pulls off skin...now using telfa pads.and bacitrin and it seems a little better. Hate even paper tape as so allergic. Site still VERY tender and still a little bruised. I can hardly stand anything on the site as it bothers me...even the telfa pad and clothing, too. Pacemaker is doing great and working 60% of the time. Doubled my BP meds as my blood pressure was quite high since all this came about at the end of March. Is all this normal? Thanks!

I'm so sorry to hear that you are facing a infection. What kind? Has it placed you in the hospital. The pus doesn't sound good please if you haven't gone back to the Dr please take a trip into the Dr tomorrow. Pus is not a good sign and they need to do a culture if they haven't.
Two months ago I faced a infection at my pacer site that caused me a 14 day hospital stay. I know it's painful and it hurts.
I will be praying for a quick recovery for you. Take care of yourself.

Blessings,
Tammy

Stitches?

by ElectricFrank - 2010-05-10 02:05:07

I had some stitches migrate out to the surface at some point quite a while after having the replacement. In my case they snagged on my shirt and let me know about it. I pulled them out with tweezers.

You could have some kind of foreign object that got left in the incision doing the same thing.

It's hard to say what is "normal". Every implant is different. My cardiologist both times gave me a drip of antibiotic before and after the surgery. I think that helped a lot in discouraging any infection.

I would say with pus, it's time to call the Dr.
Infection can be dangerous.
