knee pain

I am having behind the knee pain and am going to dr. tomorrow and wondering what test could be done to check the knee besides an x-ray. I know that mri is out and that is usually what an orthepedic dr. orders to see the entire picture. Are there any other tests out there to check what is going on? I had knee surgery in '92 on that knee and not sure what except arthritis might be going on with it now. The pain comes and goes and it is painful to walk for at least a day and then it seems to go away and then come back again a few days later. Thanks.

A CT scan or ultrasound may be able to show more.

I had terrible knee pain (right knee) and one day when I finished cleaning the litter box, I stood up, and my leg sorta went back a bit (can't remember what that is called) and I felt a huge lump....it ended up being a Baker's Cyst (found by an Xray) and I was sent to an Orthopedic doctor as well - it can be drained but the likelihood of it re-occurring is like 90% so I've decided to treat it with heat and cold compresses.

Then my left knee decided it wanted some attention too, and I ended up having an Xray - I now have arthritis in that knee. Gosh, it is so sore most of the time, it even awakes me through the night several times. I do take Ibuprofen, but I have to be extremely careful as my stomach is very sensitive. My doctor wanted to put me on Celebrex but I don't think that would go too well with my heart issues.

I also have arthritis in my neck (C4-C7) and in both hands..........so..........Lloyd (my husband) and I just bought a hot tub = it does wonders for arthritis!!!!!!!!!!! and all of my other mystery aches & pains. Hot tubs even lower blood pressure.

Anyways, if the Xray doesn't show your doctor anything, please insist on a CT and/or an ultrasound.

Oh, did I also mention I have a 50% torn rotator cuff???

Whoever said life begins at 40 should be shot!!!! LOL

Good luck & keep us posted,
Pookie

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
