laid off

I am writing for my brother. We live in Detroit and with the economy my brother was laid off. he has no insurance and needs his pacemaker replaced. He has been denied for medicaid and we are looking into insurance.

Does anyone know of a probono service for people in need?

just a side note that your name is really close to a guy that's already a member here. His name is walkerd, and your screen name is dwalker. LOL

I went through this.

Ok so first off talk to your Dr about this and see if he can get you in for the surgery anyways and get it planned out. After that I had to fill out a form for the hospital that I was going through to get charity assistance.
Your brother would qualify for that if the hospital offers it. You can also just call the hospital he goes to normally and see if they have a assistance program. If so then talk to the Dr saying that you know about the programs.
I know that like for me I had to go through the emergency to get one of my pacers so it would be covered under as a emergency and they had to take me through the ER b/c it was a emergency.

I keep checking your posts to see if this issue has been resolved because I find it so upsettin. The ONLY thing I have, at this point, is the insurance so doctors are willing to see me. I don't have this experience but my family and I have had long discussions on "what does a person w/o insurance do" if they NEED a procedure. Please keep us updated. My prayers are with yor brother and your family.
