Still get winded

Hello! I have had my Medtronic PM for three years now. I just found this site when I was searching 'coughing and PM' and found that that is sometimes common with pm recipients. I am a 55 year old female and active. I think stress was the cause of my need for a device. After dealing with selling a business, moving from the western part of the country to the east, and becoming a widow, I made a commitment to restoring my health.I've been walking (me and the dogs!) for one to two hours a day and involved with recreational exercise classes (weight, aerobic) as well as part of a dragonboat paddling team in the summer. In the beginning, my concern at my check ups was that I still seemed to get too winded -and so an adjustment was made. It's better, but after three years of daily exercise I still get irritated when I feel limitations. I should be stronger considering the effort I put into being healthy! Perhaps it is just 'old age' but I have seen active 80 years olds and expect I should feel better. I should be able to mow the lawn and shovel the snow with more ease (in my opinion).
Thanks for this site...for letting me vent. Some of you sound extremely knowledgeable (and have wowed me with you techie facts) and you obviously have asked more questions of your doctors than I. It's great to have the support and opinions of others.

I'm so sorry no one got to answer this before. Welcome to the club. We have alot of knowledgeable people here and we'd love to try and help you.

Please don't say 55 is old! ACK!! I must be ancient (older than 55), then and some here would be darn near antiques! LOL

Can you give us some insight as to why you got a PM? What was the reason you got it?
Many times a simple adjustment to your settings can help you greatly. Most PM's are placed with the factory settings of hr60/120 and a different rate or voltage change may be all you need.

Do you have an EP? If you tell him/her what you have mentioned, they may have an easy solution. Your heartrate may need to be adjusted so that the pacer will let it go higher. That's what I did, but then I have complete block and it took me awhile to get my right.

Hope this helps some. I'm sure there will be more replies. If you can give us more information there are alot of very smart people here.

Again, welcome, dragonheart!!
My very best to you,
Gellia
