You never know

I just had a meeting with my cardio last Monday.
I was a bit confused, because last year he had told me that I had a type 2 AV block. Yet my surgical report had mentioned that I was operated because I had Sick Sinus Syndrome. So, at the meeting, I asked the cardio to tell me "What is it?"
It seems that the SSS was a valid diagnostic, totally independent from the heart block, but that the heart block was real as well, although it appears to have subsided at this time.
Just to say, you never know..

Edouard

Bock and SSS

They can certainly both exist at the same time and there are modes in the pacemaker to handle it (DDDR). The problem many of us have had is where they use this mode when there is no SSS present leaving the pacer and our natural pacer in conflict.

thanks for the update,

Some info

Hi Edouard,
Just so that you know i also have SSS and I have no pacer as when I did have it it got infected and I ended up in a lot of trouble, but SSS is a totally valid diagnosis and treatment varies between doctor and sometimes even hospitals. Basically what all this means is that your sinus node is not functioning properly and it could be an AV node problem. What they originally called and AV Node dysfunctiion and it being 2nd degree could progress to SSS and sometimes some doctor actually start calling it AV Node dysfunction and then change it to SSS depending on what chages they may see. I have the same problem. Sometimes my doctor tells me I have an AV Node dysfunction and other times I'm told it's SSS. I think it depends on the doctor sometime since when I see my doctor I'm told AV Node dysfunction sometyimes and other times I'm told SSS. I also have different doctors telling me AV Node dysfunction and then SSS. I think the EKG at the time also tells them more and they change the diagnosis. It's confusing and difficult.

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
